OK the first and obvious comment, is that I’ve never heard a version of Watchtower where the acoustic guitar and the electric guitar work together to complement each other.

Dylan’s version on the “John Wesley Harding” album relegates the guitar to a backing role, with harmonica took the lead. Overall, a fairly weak version.

Hendrix was darker and the guitar was both background and lead. It has also become the iconic version, many of the current generation would be surprised to find it is not a Hendrix composition.

What we have here is a crisp, clear and modulated version of Watchtower.

The acoustic guitar has the main role of carrying the tune, and the electric steps in with lead as needed.

Josh’s voice is strong over the sung range and even my fossilised eardrums have no trouble following his lyrics, well done.

All in all, this is an excellent version, and adds another view of a classic.
