Gerd Janson is the influential label boss, journalist, DJ and producer behind the Running Back imprint an doesn't need any introduction nowadays. With a fine ear for unearthing new artists and developing them on his label, Gerd has a very busy schedule and puts out a dizzying amount of music from ambient to disco, house to techno. As a DJ, he has no identifiable style but is a master of many and is someone who can play to just about any crowd and make them move. As if that wasn't enough, as one half of Tuff City Kids he kicks out the club-ready jams that keep kids dancing. 

Back on New Year’s Eve 2015, he played back-to-back with Irishman Krystal Klear, who is at the heart of the modern house scene in his hometown Manchester. His fresh take on a classic sound has seen him win plenty of favour with the youth of the day, as well as getting him signed to Kerri Chandler’s MadTech label. Only active for six years, he has already become a regular on the global circuit and now heads up his own Cold Tonic label as well as hosting an influential show on Rinse FM. With a great sense of humour that always permeates his music, former Hoya: Hoya resident Krystal Klear has a passion for a wide range of sounds. 

Our latest mix is taken from the five hour b2b the pair played that NYE. As such it really found them stretching their legs and playing across the board. From slow disco to playful r&b grooves, 80s synths to classic house, it is a truly playful set that is chock full of jams, all carefully mixed into one explosive and loved-up whole.

a devilishly dexterous DJ. Because of this she has become an NTS
regular, firm favourite at places like De School and Dimensions and
counts Timedance boss Batu and the Livity Sound crew as fans.

In the mix for us she serves up all sorts of futurist beats that are
wired up with electronics or stripped back to more haunting and
hypnotic sound worlds. Reni's ability to manipulate rhythm and
texture, time and space is utterly thrilling and finds her go from
slowed down dub to high octane minimalism and on to jungle with ease
over the course of this slick 90 minute selection.

Our next guest belongs to a very special subsect of the electronic community. Namely, those who don't take themselves too seriously, but still deliver some of the most relentlessly captivating sets around. Part-time selector, part-time meme creator, and full-time Psychotherapist, Vincent Neumann has one of the most refreshing and honest voices in the dance music community today. Born and raised in Leipzig, he honed his skills as a resident at Distillery, earning himself a reputation as a renowned DJ with his sharp ear for underappreciated cuts. Since his humble beginnings, he has become a regular at Berghain and created one of the most followed techno meme accounts, technothegathering, where he uses his humor and knowledge of magic cards to socially critique and mirror the happenings of the underground music scene. His sets are equally critical in that they exemplify a taste that does not follow any trends, but rather a genuine spirit focused on music for music's sake. We are thrilled to bring you an exceptional two-hour mix from this special character, featuring everything from Octo Octa to Tool.

Last December @CCL-tuf and I were invited to play an all night back to back set at a party called High & Tight in Seattle. H&T is one of those parties that you dream of playing, where every detail from the sound to the setting is perfectly thought out and where the crowd stays with you for every twist and turn. We ended up playing for almost 9 hours (although actually I had to leave for the airport before the end.) This excerpt is the first 3 hours, slowly and carefully heating the soup before bringing things to a boil.

Last year we spent some time in Bali at Potato Head (@potatoheadmusic). Alongside my night time gig I asked them if I could play a "sunset set" by the beach. Instead a biblical thunderstorm rolled through and we all huddled under the covers. 
Some records I have played before, some I haven't all of them special to me in some way.

Q. How long have you been a part of the NYC music scene?
A. Oof, well I’ve only lived in NY for a year, but I played my first show here in 2009 at West Nile, which was in Williamsburg next to Glasslands. They cut my set short cuz I was harshing the vibe and they wanted Teengirl Fantasy to play. I was playing “Black Metal” at the time lol 

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix. 
A. This one is meant to be a very gentle ride w me in yr living room or on yr late autumn walk. We’re hangin out, sharin what we share, talkin bout what we talk about, whilst occasionally sitting in awe of these really amazing records.

livwutang is the alias of rising Seattle-based DJ and artist Olivia Klutse. Moving to the city from Denver in 2014, she has quickly become an integral and vital member of Seattle’s underground music community, forming numerous friendships and helping organize events for a number of the city’s budding parties. Truancy Volume 271 sees livwutang put together a mix inspired by dusk window views, coastal road trips, and long meandering walks around south Seattle. She tells us the mix is a reflection of her state of mind and the transitional Seattle weather at the moment, sprinkling in subtle moments of euphoria and ascending atmospheres to joyous effect.
