Member of the house music collective CYK. Kotsu has played many gigs both in Japan and abroad. 

CYK are constantly offered B2B sets, and have played at Venues in Tokyo such as CONTACT, Womb, VENT, as well as at big festivals such as "Rainbow Disco Club", "FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL" and "Wonderfruit Festival" .

The pace of his activities has remained identical since he moved to Kyoto in September 2020, and by February 2023 he had played in 30 cities in Japan. He has held his own party "UNTITLED" in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, as well as resident parties in Okayama and Hiroshima, and continues to release pure energy in dance music and clubbing on a national scale. In 2023, he did an all-night long set at WWW X.

As a DJ, he develops borderless dance music from the decade onwards, weaving in archives from the past as a reference point. He is renowned for his unique selections in line with social moods and floor grooves.

Kotsu's output is not restricted to music. He has produced numerous flyers for his own parties and CYK, as well as ZINE magazine, featuring his columns in the past.

Kazuyuki Miyauchi and Mayumi Kunioka's "ICE" released the album "We're In The Mood" in 1996. 
I edited an extended version of 'Voice In The Mood', an interlude from the album. Great harmonies and sitar sound. 
I added a rhythm and made it an extended edit with more of a downtempo dub reggae flavor.

The Italian house project 49ers released the EP "Got To Be Free" in 1992.
The EP includes a great remix of 'Got To Be Free (Gradualundergrounddub Mix)' by Andrea Gemolotto and Sergio Portaluri.
That synth riff is amazing and I love it!
The tempo of the track was slowed down and M'DU's vocals were added to create a Kwaito-flavored slow-tempo house Edit.

The Swedish pop group Ace of Base released "Don't Turn Around" in 1994. It is a pop reggae tune with a nice synth lead!
I edited that replaced the 'ground beat' rhythm with a bhangra beat flavor!

Seiko Matsuda released the album "Canary" in 1983. Among the songs on the album, 'Misty' is one that shines with a Balearic sparkle.
Lyrics by Takashi Matsumoto and composed/arranged by Akira Inoue.
When I was listening to that song, I thought I heard the rhythm of the Steppers, so I added the rhythm and Edit.

Simon Harris released “Time EP” in 1990. The breakbeat track ‘Time (feat. Leslie Lyrics) [Viscious Rap Mix]’ was included on the EP.
I replaced the breakbeats with 808 beats in this edit, which was intended as a time slip from 1990 to the late 1980s.

宇治香園からのご挨拶

2015年、宇治香園の創業百五十年時の記念品に端を発するTealightsoundは、「記念品であり、茶をテーマとした協働作品であり、コンセプト媒体である」という特異な成り立ちにもかかわらず、多くの方々のご協力のもと、おかげさまで現在11作を数えています。

本年は、そのTealightsoundが11年目を迎える年であり、これまで10年間の流れを踏まえ、未来を展望するような媒体を制作したいと考えました。

そこで、文筆家・選曲家の原雅明さんに、音楽的な観点からこのシリーズを捉えていただき、概論をお書きいただきました。

また、Tealightsound最初の作品、「SOMETHING IN THE AIR─the soul of quiet light and shadow layer─」を制作いただきましたCOMPUMAさんには、11作品の楽曲を使用したミックス作品を制作いただきました。

いずれも「読むお茶」「聴くお茶」としてお楽しみいただけましたら幸いです。

なお、表題はCOMPUMAさんのミックス作品のタイトルが素晴らしく、ご本人の許可を得て使用させていただきました。感謝申し上げます。

"Tealightsound"について  

宇治香園は、お茶の提供を通じてすこやかな暮らしのお手伝いをしたいと考えています。

そしてそのお茶の核心は、豊かな彩りと響きに満ちた体感にあります。

一般的にお茶は単なる飲み物として捉えられていますが、それを飲む瞬間、たった一口の刹那でさえつぶさに観察すると、そこには絶えざる変化を伴う体感が見出されます。そしてこの感覚は、オーロラのように変化する色のようであり、お寺の鐘の音がアタックから減衰してゆくゴオォォォォォンという音を聴いたときの感覚のようでもあります。

宇治香園はこの三つの体感の要素、茶と光と音の統合を、Tea + Light + Sound =“Tealightsound"として探求しています。

この試みが、すばらしい音楽、アート、写真、デザインの融合として楽しんでもらうきっかけとなるだけでなく、茶を淹れ味わうことに伴う地理的及び環境的制約を越えて、お茶の核心にふれてもらうきっかけにもなることを願っています。

On "Tealightsound"

Ujikoen, a Japanese tea company founded in 1865 in Kyoto, Japan, has a vision of bringing joy through the quintessence of sencha Japanese tea. The company's experiment “Tealightsound" is produced based on its concept that tea (Japanese tea), light, and sound are—despite their different appearances—similar in terms of the invisible sensations they generate that continuously change.

Although Japanese tea is generally recognized as simply a drink, careful observation of the drinking moment, even a sip or taste, will reveal a sensation involving continuous change. And this sensation strongly resembles to the one evoked when hearing the attack and decay of a church bell sound, ding-dooooong, as well as to ever-changing colors (like the aurora borealis).

The experiment integrates and explores the three elements: tea, light, and sound. The company hopes it will be an opportunity not only to enjoy the fusion of wonderful music, art, photography, and design but also to experience the quintessence of sencha Japanese tea beyond geographical and/or environmental constraints involved in making and tasting Japanese tea.
