August's Flavour of the month is a live-set by the Argentinean producer Uji (@ujitimebeing).

Organic sounds turn digital, surprising even the most attentive listeners. The music flows like a walk on the Andes, resting on the top to look around at the landscape, before waking up back in the jungle, or the ocean, or the forest as if traveling in time.

The suspended stillness of the daybreak and the twilight feeds our imagination, and fascinates the longing for the unknown. This mix includes tracks from the Uji's debut solo album - “Alborada” - out for ZZK Records, plus remix and other singles.

Flavour of The Month: Agosto 18 (Uji)

I feel like I speak for a lot of us when I say this past year has been challenging and full of a lot of heavy changes. As the days start to get longer I feel like the light is finally starting to come back. This mix is essentially a musical representation of a lot of emotions I’ve been feeling over the past few months. I decided to not focus on technical mixing so much with this per se but was more aiming to showcase a collection of songs new and old from over the years that have helped me process and move forward. I hope this narrative of sounds resonates with whoever needs to hear it right now. Onward and upward my dudes. Happy solstice.

LiT MIX 015 from Golden boi Shiny Things ratchets up the headiest footwork/jungle and dubstep with hyphy strip hop and rap, for a bootyful blend of UK and USA flavours that radiates the best of BC bass music festival vibes. 

Featuring unreleased underground dubs from the likes of Metafloor, Danny Corn and Oakk woven with the latest mainstream hits from Nicki Minaj to Queen Key and Iggy Azalea, this mix hits that sweet spot of top-40 vs bottom-40hz vibes guaranteed to get our twerk on! 
 
Raised in the rural Kootenay mountains yet drawn to the urban 808 sounds of grime and trap, Shiny Things got a head start on the international festival scene attending nearby Shambhala and Burning Man from a young age. No wonder he’s now grown to become a fixture on the decks at both festivals as well as faves like Bass Coast and Envision. 

Light Twerkerz loves his balance of serious skills and irreverent humour, and we’re thrilled he’s now signed with Triple A Talent to further his reach beyond the Pacific Northwest. Catch him next in Calgary at Hifi Club on April 2nd, and in Edmonton with Om Unit on April 4th.

LiT MIX 015 :: SHINY THINGS ::

March began with my pulling tracks together from producers I was scheduled to perform alongside later that month for a spring promo mix - namely Sam Binga, Rider Shafique, DJ Madd, Handsome Tiger & Captivate.
As the month progressed and all of the gigs were cancelled, it evolved into this full-length concept mix. Some of the vocal tracks talk about anxiety and isolation while some songs take on entirely new significance, given the current COVID-19 context - others are so excessively contradictory to current mandates that they end up bordering on comical. I didn't set out with the mission of attaching a theme to the mix, so it certainly wanders - but as a whole, I feel it comes together cohesively.

I hope to see you in the dance one day soon, and that you're able to enjoy this in the meantime..

LiT MIX 019 :: MEWS ::

DJ Dem Ones delivers a lively LiT MIX of dancehall, reggae, moombahton, r’n’b, afrobeats and trap to keep us bubbling through winter! 

Representing #mightygang from Brampton, @djdem-ones has energized crowds across Canada as touring DJ for Haviah Mighty. Lucky west coast listeners will recall just before Covid closures hit last spring, this dynamic duo went in on a Boiler Room set at Vancouver’s Fortune Sound Club. Watch it on Youtube, along with their Caribana-themed music video “Ba Na Na” with A Tribe Called Red, and you’ll see how Dem Ones is more than a DJ, she’s a hype woman backing up her performing partner on the mic, dancing and vibing up the crowd too. 
 
We’ve loved the mixes she’s released this year including her Rhythm & Bae and Fusion Freestyle sets, and a guest mix for Icarus Sound. Musically Dem Ones’ LiT MiX selections balance classics made fresh with current riddims, edits and blends, with anthems from pop hits to underground secret weapons—ID seekers peep the tracklist, shhhh. And dancers check the Youtube playlist for some inspired dance videos from around the world accompanying the tracks.

Mixing wise, the cuts are quick, the dubwise effects are live, and you can tell she had as much fun recording this LiT MiX as we will dancing to it. No wonder she’s the fox with the aux at house parties - now if only we could catch her on tour again soon, that would be fantastic! RadiateLove’s LiT MIX 024 is a Valentine’s vortex of deep bass, sexy r’n’b, alté, trap, house, baile and ballads.
