Torn between nostalgia and uninhibited futurism, Industrial Princess is laced with nods to abandoned rave sound, recontextualised by Manuka Honey’s signature Latin rhythms and disregard for any genre-defining conventions. Underpinning the EP is an ominous feeling of distress and discomfort that Manuka Honey is renowned for, designed to provoke clubs into anxious frenzies and heightened bodily reactions.

Transcend into a never-before-defined expanse of sounds as TT welcomes back BFTT with his debut album ‘Redefines’. The statement of a periodic 4-year writing process marks his most reflective work to date - a meticulously sculpted sound which introspectively draws from everything that he has produced. The album is not only a testimony to BFTT’s sonic journey but the embodiment of time itself. Interpreted as an ‘audio diary’, it puts into sound a spectrum of rose tinted emotions which are attached to the samples buried within each track. Taken from YouTube videos and recordings from his phone, a subconscious process of redefinition has attributed additional meaning to the samples over time. BFTT’s eulogization of the inexplicable beauty in this false nostalgia is conveyed as a colossal encyclopaedia of sounds, spaces and rhythms, taking you on a journey into the past through the sounds of future.

‘Redefines’ will keep you on the edge of your seat as BFTT effortlessly flits between different sonic terrains. From beatless expanses of desolate rainy soundscapes, to highly charged spectrums of beats, to varying iterations of glitchy vocal samples. Expect switch-ups between warming subterranean basslines and steely high-frequency refractions in a matter of seconds. Off-kilter beats compressed tight enough to pack a punch morph into more dubby distortions and reverberating kicks. To close, a dissonant orchestra of acoustic strings masterfully tying together the album.

TL;DR: this one’s a special record.

‘Yukou / 遊光’ is Kyoto-based DJ and producer Rilla’s second EP for SVBKVLT. 5 tracks, plus remixes from Nahash, Tra Tra Trax’ Bitter Babe and Gorong Gorong’s Kadapat.

Yukou / 遊光 is a combination of the words 遊 (play) and 光 (light). It can be directly translated as ‘wandering light’, but also can mean ‘God of fire’ or ‘Demon fire’. which is often used in Japanese to refer to the fire that accompanies a ghost.

Following up from work on Björk´s 'Fossora', Icelandic trio 'sideproject' debut on SVBKVLT with their new full-length album 'sourcepond'. Taking influence from the fog-covered wetlands of their native island, sideproject transfigure influences from the low-end frequencies of grime and bass music, and reshape it into a haze of transient-smeared beats accompanied by breathy synths that grow ever wetter till they slip beneath the surface tensions of their harmonic stratum. Compared to previous output, 'sourcepond' opts for a more concise approach to their music, stacking up their influences of experimental electronic, Icelandic punk and contemporary club music, and builds a sound that oscillates between melodic hooks and experimental rhythms. Each track carves through the sensuous material, pulling the listener into the dank sourcepond as though magnetic forces were guiding a bird's beak towards misty horizons.

Balancing analogue & acoustic soundworlds with digital and synthetic aesthetics, Stolen Velour, FLOCO & Aria SL first began working on the EP back in 2022. They debuted their lead single ‘Lilium’, a cover of the main theme to anime ‘Elfen Lied’ which is written in Latin, at Loughborough Junction’s Spanners alongside a lineup including Petal Supply, Himera, Iglooghost & Umru. Some months after, they continued to perform iterations of the track amongst other music at varied spots like The White Hotel & Laylow, which informed their approach to music as three collaborators. They eventually completed ‘Long Way Round’ over the summer of 2023 via several sessions across London & Leeds. In a sudden burst of creativity, they completed the final two tracks a year later, forming a fully-fledged EP spanning contemporary classical, folk, pop, experimental electronic and more. Using extended classical and experimental techniques within a pop music context, the EP foregrounds narrative leitmotifs to chronicle a departure from naivety and innocence into a darker, more complex world. With all three artists coming from their own corners of the music world, their EP ‘Holdfast’, named after the anchoring root system of seaweeds, enmeshes their love of synthetic & analogue technologies with the beauty inherent in periods of personal transformation.
