"At about 1950, it was no longer self-understood that a sound is a sound, because the idea to compose the sounds themselves came up, as a result we might say, of the historical development. And it took a little step to have the idea to compose a single sound, to synthesize a sound. One by one, I became aware that a sound is not just a sound. The classical instrumentation up to the present day, was the instruments which we can name, has been an art of mixing. Whenever we hear sounds we are changed, we are no longer the same, after having heard certain sounds. And this is the more the case when we hear organized sounds. Organized by another human being, music."

Techno I House I Minimal I Deep

Today’s premiere comes in the form of the opener track from “A Long Way,” Jacques Bon, and Drux’s forthcoming album. 
The 8-track LP starts with a bass-heavy, celestial-sounding one-minute opening scene, after which a steady kick enters, surely bound to push every dance floor it’s played on into a frenzy. A breakdown follows shortly after, topped by a subtle, chopped vocal sample. A second breakdown occurs, decreasing the energy even more before erupting into insanity again. The track sets the tone for the rest of the album: deep, dubby, and sophisticated. 

The entire release has common thematic elements woven through it yet is never dull or repetitive. Some are slow-burners perfect for warming up floors, and some will serve as big, memorable peak-time moments. Overall, an incredibly impressive album that will inevitably receive an extremely warm welcome upon its release. Business as usual from the renowned Smallville.

“A Long Way" LP will be out on Smallville on July 1, 2022.
