Leading up to a forthcoming LP on Tigers on a Leash, Fiori's Daniel de Graaf will be releasing a free download every few weeks from a collection of improvised analog recordings dubbed "Further Studies in Concentration for the Reclusive Mind". While the tracks were original created for the sole purpose of sonic exploration, we think they have a place with the personal listener and the dj alike. Enjoy.

TOAL Selections

Meeting, literally, on the streets of New York City almost 10 years ago, Niko Dalagelis (One Of Them) and Ryan Cavanagh (Slow Hands) combined to form their Duece Bigalow inspired Male Madame collaboration not long after.

Their mutual respect for all things Rob Scneider, and incredible admiration for fermented and distilled beverages might explain their limited discography. But that comes with no shortage of quality and variation in style. When not arguing over composition and theory (both of their studied fields), the two friends sporadically find the time between their solo pursuits to collectively craft music, Male Madame is just that.

And with that, we bring you Male Madame's first release of a two part series on Tigers on a Leash.  Moving in a bit of a different direction after our last release, Sunny Saint Mark is going to keep things a little deeper.  The smokey vocals and warm synths are perfect as we move into the winter here in NYC.  With remixes by The Drifter and Cameo Culture rounding out the EP, this one's got a little something for the legs and for the brains.

The title track "Sunset" kicks things off with the sun-drenched synth style Reflex is know for.  "Nothing Say or Do" takes things in a darker epic direction, while still keeping things sweaty on the dance floor. 

Along with their two brilliant originals we've got a club rework by Reflex themselves, our buddy Bufi on remix duty taking things to the land of dark brooding bliss, and new comers Give Me Wallets from Japan coming on strong with their tropical love fest.

Which is exactly what happened when I hit play on this one for the first time.  Amazing.  Some of you 90's music heads should be able to pick up on the inspiration for this one. Here's the fourth TOAL release.  This one's been a while in the works so I'm thrilled to finally be getting it out to the world.  This here is the original mix.  Sort of a cosmic groover that has a slow build layered with vocals, guitar, bass & synths.  Hope you guys like it.  I was feeling a special connection to this one so I wanted to find the perfect group of remixers.  With mixes by Toby Tobias, Drop Out Orchestra and JKriv, I think we've accomplished that.  Have a listen through the mixes as they're posted over the next few days and let us know what you think.

J and I originally wrote "Ditar" in 2003 and "After the Disco" in 2004, so I guess that would mean this EP has been in the works for about 10 years.  Thing is, neither track could seem to find a home outside our DJ sets until last summer when Daniel de Graaf of Fiori (and Pink Stallone) heard "Ditar" on a drive through Jersey and offerd up a remix.  He brought a freshness to the track, with the help of <a href="https://www.facebook.com/julianpetersonmusic">Julian Peterson</a> on vocals, that we couldn't resist sharing with everyone.  The results here speak for themselves, so enjoy and let us know what you think.
