This album is a construct on the language which composes, and continues to compose, our musical lexicon. 26 letters represented by 26 titles creating a sonic grammar which has been our common thread through 5 albums now.

Signs, symbols and figures are our founding influences. This is where this Alphabet finds its Alpha.  
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ is an evocation, almost an incantation, of influences that have shaped our musical and shared lexicon. A raw material, without which we would not have had the chance to meet and experience this twinning.

This is also a song of the machine, and of the machines, an extension of the capacities of instruments, originating in the middle of the 90’s, when electronic music emerged, and should be listened to while listening to your inner self.

It is, for the two of us, the song of printed circuits, electronic dreams cradled by IDM (Intelligent dance music), which finds its expression in the compilations Artificial Intelligence of Warp Records, Braindance of Rephlex, and the abstractions of Skam and Planet Mu, of dream music under the influence, electronica in all its forms, the abstract analogue of the soundtracks of our childhood.
A founding anthology in our work, but one which we have never addressed to this level and which, therefore, became our starting point.

We have always been seduced by the idea that music is a language, which contrary to the verb, is universal. Music doesn’t require the same resources: it evokes images, provokes emotion, no translation required.

It is for us a universal message, a thought without discord, without opposition, a sharing that helps us leave our own doom. A communion to extract us from the hysteria.

Strangely, in its universality, its perception, its abstract interpretation, emotion, depends on the sensitivity and receptivity of each and every one of us.
An interpretation for infinite interpretations.

It is a very personal and spontaneous album. A series of organic and synthetic landscapes. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ is not the symbol of one story as with our previous albums, but more a symbol of our common history, and certainly of those to come.

Japanese born Shoko Igarashi's debut album Simple Sentences will be released on Tigersushi Records on the 20th of May.
It's a record that, not unlike a piece of luggage checking in from city to city, has managed to absorb vital influences from each place it has landed. Shoko grew up in rural Japan, she studied in the US and is currently living in the most quintessential European city, Brussels. Shining in its diversity, Simple Sentences carries elements from each one of those stops in her life. Her native Japan and her love for anime that she watched as a kid, the rigorousness of her Boston Berklee jazz education (Shoko is a saxophonist), European bleep techno and Warp, and even euro disco psych kitsch, since Shoko names Dan Lacksman (Telex) as one of her heroes.
The influences from Far East are more than evident and funnily enough, even unconscious, which makes them integrate in a beguiling childish and naive way that adds even more to the originality of the sound. Take for example the lead track ‘’AppleBanana’’ - Echoes of Chiemi Manabe, Hosono and even overtones of Akiko Yano are all seamlessly there. 'Sand Dungeon' is a little gem reminiscent of Yellow Magic Orchestra at the heights of their powers and the aptly titled 'Anime Song' could be an unreleased track from Testpattern’s infamous and sought after LP. 'Lovely Song' in its electronic pastoral vibe could have been produced by Seigen Ono, but is entirely the work of Shoko's expansive creative world. 'CASH OK' harks back to New York’s 90’s Jazz Street scene, paying tribute to her Brooklyn live gigs, and album closer 'Tsuki No Yama' goes back to her roots with a meditative folk sound quite different from the rounded pop edges that the rest of her album carries.

8 months after the release of Second Nature, Tigersushi presents a rich and diverse collection of remixes from the acclaimed album that proposed to redefine our relationship to Nature.
This is an occasion for Joakim, who hand-picked all the remixers here, to bridge the gap between generations, genres and eras as he always likes to do. You’ll find a wide spectrum of artists on the leftfield and avant-garde side of electronic music, from all around the world : some pioneers and legends, some young upcoming talents and some unsung heroes of the underground.
The goal was also to create a remix album that is not just a collection of club bangers but rather a consistent record that you can listen to from start to finish.

London-born, Chinese-Malaysian multidisciplinary producer and DJ, Flora Yin-Wong remixed 2 tracks into one, stretching out the noisy tones of Leviathan Chant and layering them with bits of piano from Sferic & Whistlers which took a new somber color.
Canadian Phoebé Guillemot aka Ramzi reinvents the utopian vibes of early electronica (Clear Records, B12...) in a pastoral version of Formosan Rock.
808 State surprised us with an amazing free-form electronic Jazz version of Kepler-39 proving that you can still re-invent yourself after more than 30 years of outstanding releases.
Hong Kong producer Scott Young (Discos Capablancas, OHH Sounds) turned Owling Gorilla into an industrial haunted lullaby that sounds like it was recorded in a dark and wet tunnel, far away from its original jungle sounds.
Australian wonder-kid and founder of Super Utu, River Yarra (Antinote) applied his signature percussive, hypnotic proto-goa style to Formosan Rock.
The legendary Mad Professor dubbed out Make It Slow just like he did with Massive Attack back in the days, creating a perfect bass heavy bucolic stroll.
French musician and producer Pierre Rousseau extended and completely re-arranged Indri Eyes in an epic way that sounds like an encounter between Kraftwerk, Plaid and Air.
Chilean born and Italy based Paula Tape heads straight to the dancefloor with another re-interpretation of Formosan Rock that made us think of Larry Levan’s classic remix of Nami Shimada.
New York based producer, engineer, DJ, activist, sound archivist (they recently worked on the digitizing of Frankie Knuckles’ record collection presented at Gagosian art gallery in New York), Russel E.L. Butler created a hypnotic off beat dance version of Blood Garden that holds its mystery listen after listen.
Lastly, Russian-born, activist and dissident artist Pavel Milyakov aka Buttechno ends the record hands in the air with a pumping stripped down rendition of Formosan Rock.

We’re more than proud and happy to celebrate it with our beloved Principles of Geometry, one of the first acts to be signed on the label.

Soon after the release in 2022 of a triple album dedicated to electronic language, Principles of Geometry continues their orbiting journey that began exactly 20 years ago with "Penta," a Maxi composed of five electro-geometric vignettes that confirm what we already knew: the discreet French duo pilots one of the most underestimated projects in European IDM.

By returning just one year after a massive fifth album (26 tracks), Principles of Geometry makes a clear artistic move: shifting from electronic language unfolded on ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ to gesture, as one would associate intellect with manual, actions with words. On "Penta," to be visualized as the five fingers of a hand sketching the immediate and spontaneous pleasure of a hand pressing a chord, Guillaume Grosso and Jeremy Duval thus combine two essential concepts of their electronic music: the need to make the listener dance with their brains, and to touch with their mental images.

With nods to the godfathers of the genre (Autechre and Boards of Canada) or crossing paths with Aphex Twin in a Michael Mann film, "Penta" is therefore a beauty of gesture first conceived with the fingers, and without the need for words to evoke either the romance or the violence of a chord on a Roland Juno 60.

Mastered by the legend Noel Summerville (Boards of Canada, Kraftwerk, My Bloody Valentine) and designed by Ian Anderson of The Designers Republic (responsible for the graphics of the cult WipEout and many collaborations with the Warp label), this Maxi is therefore listened to as much as a recreational return to the future of the 90s as it is a concise summary of the equilateral career of Principles of Geometry; equally distant between pure emotion and the need to ponder the notes played in this very special ship.

Some words from Shoko about the track : "My Japanese roots are also imbedded into this song. I think I was influenced by “Mori No Hito” from Ryuichi Sakamoto’s album “Ongaku Zukan”. I love this Japanese sound of FM bells and woodblock that were made with early CMI samplers in the 80’s. 
Also, I used an amazing instrument called the “Tenori-on” made by YAMAHA. I became quite good at it, to a point where I can improvise entire songs on it. The sequenced part in the middle section is composed out of an improvisation on the Tenori-on. I really love it. I’d like to release a whole album fully made with the Teroni-on. 
I always was so scared of writing lyrics as it is no easy task, but thankfully I had recently worked with Jean Kluger and Dan Lacksman on their album “YAMASUKI 2.0” which is a sequel to the hit record they had made in the 70’s called Yamasuki. I contributed to the record as Japanese lyricist, composer, singer and flutist. That experience gave me a lot of confidence with my song writing ability as well as recording my own voice.
Later I asked Dan Lacksman to help me produce and mix my album which was a beautiful experience as I was a fan of how he used his legendary Moog System Modular. I later discovered that he along with Marc Moulin had work with Haruomi Hosono and Miharu Koshi on her cover of Telex’ “L’amour Toujours”, I thought that was awesome."

Some words from Shoko about the track : "For this track I wanted to put the emphasis on the beat and make it danceable in my own way. I was very influenced by the album “SFX” by Haruomi Hosono which is a true gem because it excites the mind while making your body move.
The title “Shokoism” is another little tongue-in-cheek joke that I made while I was writing my final philosophy paper for my master’s degree at the Brussels Conservatory. I kept running into difficult words that sounded like “blabla-ism” all the time, so I thought why not creating Shokoism."

"I wrote this song during the confinement of the corona virus. It was a really strange, empty, mournful year for everyone. However, I developed a greater appreciation for the life indoor as well as a love for the place I live in Brussels. I realize how blessed and lucky I am to have a place to live when a lot of people suffers and don’t even have a roof over their heads. I wanted to express this feeling of safety and comfort in the song. 
The beauty of a ray of sun passing through the window, the gratitude to have a warm blanket, watching the clouds slowly moving, the birds landing on the roof, the quiet street outside, the gradual passing of the season. I started to notice the small things in greater details. Some things very small but really precious and lovely. I realized how much I love watering plants, drinking tea, making tracks and eating “senbei” (Japanese snacks), adopting a kitty, reading books and learning new things. These were precious moments in my life that I’ll always cherish."

Some words from Shoko about the track : "For this one I said to myself: “I will make a track which sounds like an anime theme song”
. Like most of Japanese people from my generation, I grew up watching tons of “animes”. I think this type of drama is specific to Japanese film scoring. The Japanese “blues” per se. I am big fan of Kentaro Haneda, a legendary composer who’s well-known for composing original soundtrack of “Macross” as well as Yuji Ohno that made the music for “Cobra”. This song combines the sound of old 70’s Sci-Fi with the soulfulness of Marvin Gaye and the Motown era."

"I have to admit that I’ve got probably my fair share of influence from video game music soundtracks as my older brothers were constantly playing Zelda, Super Mario, and such when we were little.
As an opening statement for the album, I sampled a couple of phrases from an interview by electronic music pioneer Eliane Radigue in which she made this simple yet remarkable statement:  In the beginning, there was a certain music that I wanted to make. It was this music and none other.” 
Halfway in the song, I inserted another quote from the same interview that really touches me in which Eliane Radigue says :  "Withing this limitation, there is a subtility, delicacy and richness of expression that is extraordinary. So, when we discover this we become like children. We discover! And that’s what I did with my synthesizer!"

Under the guise of DyE we nd ‘Taki 183,’ an enigmatic debut Album from Juan de Guillebon; long time bass player to the demanding training of the Parisian electronic scene - Joakim & the Disco, Botox and Maestro. DyE has said of ‘Taki 183’ that it ‘is a personal and progressive urban design’ already popular with artists as diverse as James Murphy, DJ Mehdi, Erol Alkan and James Holden. Sometimes dreamy electro-pop or excessive shoe gaze, and then often introverted dubstep and hallucinogenic nu-disco. On a more Highbrow level, DyE invests several research elds into his music, such as harmonic instrumental radicals and disarticulated cosmic melodies and synthetic songs!!!! But fundamentally what we discover is a journey through DyE’s immediate sphere of in uence, with the rst port of call being his younger self. 
Meet 14 year-old DyE, he is playing guitar in a Tropical Disco band with Malian Musicians, but then leaves to study sound engineering, cello and Electric Bass - precocious at best. Luckily for us he found time to mess himself up by joining a rock band, of sorts, as bass Player for Joakims band around 2005. DyE was 3 years on the road playing every major city around the world and recording on many of Joakims albums. In his own words

‘it was some kind of Golden Age.’ But it was around 2007 when the infamous Web 2.0 appeared; the period in the history of the Internet, where the user became, not just the content, but the star of the data world. DyE is fascinated by the in nity opportunity to be both anonymous and popular from any Place in the World. As a Call and Response to this ‘Golden period’ DyE created a little project called ‘One Week, One Track!’ which saw him upload a new track to MySpace every week.

Pour nous, ce premier album de Guillaume Teyssier est un espoir retrouvé, notre déclaration d'amour à la chanson française, dans la lignée des Bashung, Ferrer, Gainsbourg, Balavoine, Daho et autres Polnareff.

Guillaume n'est pas exactement un nouveau venu mais il s'agit ici d'une renaissance.
Auteur d'un album sous le nom 'My Sister Klaus' puis de la Bande Originale du film 'La Femme Invisible', il nous aura fallu un certain temps pour le convaincre de chanter en français.
Rares sont les musiciens français qui parviennent à conjuguer une sensibilité musicale étonnante, des textes subtils et un chant impeccable. Guillaume Teyssier est ce qu'on appelle en anglais un song-writer, espèce en voie de disparition, de ceux qui composent des morceaux avec une guitare ou un piano et leur voix. A partir de versions brutes et minimales de ses chansons, Guillaume fabrique des petits bijoux pop à l'aide de ses musiciens Thomas et Peter, et de son producteur Joakim qui a enregistré l'album à Paris puis mixé dans son nouveau studio à New York.
On pourrait se prêter au jeu des influences, mais ce qui caractérise Guillaume Teyssier c'est justement ce songwriting qui transparaît au travers de productions hétéroclites, la cold wave de 'Shadow Dancer', les accents berbères de 'Give It Up', le psychédélisme de '2048', l'électronique lo-fi de 'Vortex Disco' - qui a au passage converti Sebastian (Ed Banger) en fan instantané, ou le synthétisme glacé des 'Princes Des Villes', reprise étonnante de Michel Berger.
Au fil des écoutes de PARIS VORTEX sa patte se dessine, un blues cosmique, un dandysme un peu lunaire. Enfin, pour véritablement apprécier Guillaume Teyssier il faut aussi l'avoir vu une fois jouer ses morceaux seul au piano ou à la guitare, dans leur minimalisme habité, tout comme un Sebastien Tellier n'est jamais meilleur que seul au piano avec sa Ritournelle. Ne le ratez donc pas la prochaine fois qu'il passe près de chez vous et comme dirait Deleuze, tombez amoureux de sa part de folie.

Most of the DJ world doesn't know who Guillaume Teyssier is. You're missing out. But that's ok, we're gonna help you here with 2 magnificient remixes of Teyssier's music. One is by Tigersushi's long time collaborators Principles Of Geometry. They go deep, like very deep, diving underwater with this shimmering remix of a very well known French pop hit from the 80s that Guillaume covered on his album. The other one is from a newcomer from Australia. Murray Lake runs a beautiful studio there and you can hear that in the lush production of this long epic Space take on Vortex Disco. A perfect set opener.

After his unexpected take on pop with the UFO hit « Twist Of Men » Feat. Jeanne Added, Apollo Noir presents a second extract from his upcoming second album.
A venture into dancefloor territory under a heavy breakbeat / drum & bass influence. This could be the soundtrack of a Wipeout 2097 video game, a sci-fi chase scene, it rumbles, it crawls, it groans and explodes while providing Apollo Noir's peculiar melodic style.
A new facet of the french producer, slowly unveiling the shades of his upcoming « Chaos ID » album.

BIOGRAPHY

After growing up in the middle of the deepest French countryside (one would say in the middle of nowhere), a place called « The Black Woods » in Auvergne, Apollo Noir got into music playing drums in various Hardcore Punk and Grind bands. Hardcore is always a good way of starting music, a bit like going to the conservatory for classical musicians. During all these years being a drummer, Apollo Noir listened to a lot of music, learning, digesting, forging a solid knowledge of indie music that will help him define his future sound.
Eventually he came across a drum machine/ sequencer / synth made by Roland in the 90s called the MC909. A cheap machine used in a lot of Trance productions at that time. That was his entry point to making electronic music and how he started collecting synths obsessively.
Almost an adult, he’s ready to start his own solo project that he will call Apollo Noir as a nod to his childhood ‘Black Woods’.
His first album ‘A/N’ almost naturally comes to the ears of Tigersushi, the kind of music we love here, ambitious, emotional, challenging, genre-defying. For him this is a distortion of reality, where music and spirituality become one. Apollo’s music combines rawness, brutalism, minimalism and perfectionism in a very unique way. A few transformed voices haunt the record like a ghostly mass. There’s elements of Vangelis epic synths, Oneohtrix Point Never’s futuristic free forms or Sonic Youth dissonant noise, all made mostly from rearranged live takes recorded with a whole analog synth and drum machines set up. And yet it doesn’t sound vintage at all.
This is a trip to a distant planet, both familiar and strange, a psychedelic and distorted utopia.
