I made this simple little piano album for you, my family and friends, in thanks for your love and friendship. I recorded all of these songs on a Yamaha Clavinova using M-Audio, Ableton Live software, and an AMD laptop. There are plenty of mistakes so you know it's real (at least that's my excuse). I hope you enjoy it. It's meant to be something you can listen to quietly in the background while you're sitting by the fire or doing some other activity where you want to relax and let your mind wander. The first word of the title is pronounced "Pie-anna" - it's the way my grandfather used to jokingly say piano, and it still puts a smile on my face. The second word of the title represents the period from which many of these songs date - the Romantic period - my favorite. In the liner, I have provided some notes on the images that these pieces conjure up in my mind in cas you are the type who likes to picture things with your music. 10) This song is one of my favorite Chopin nocturnes. It has a lot of power over me. I'm afraid I cannot even do it justice - I have a perfect version of this song that plays in my head, and I can never seem to recreate it quite right in actuality. I hope you can imagine the perfect version.

6) My first piano teacher, Patricia Florig, told me once that Debussy originally wrote this song as a finger exercise for his students, since practicing scales and arpeggios is so boring! It's probably the most beautiful "exercise" I can think of. One of my friends once wrote a song for a wedding using this style of piece but with the chord progressions from Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" - that was pretty cool.

5) The meaning of this song to me is exactly derived from the title - imagine yourself looking at photos from times past, thinking about your life and those old days. I think about all of you that way from time to time and this song is representative of that.

4) This is a song that my last piano teacher, Ralph Zitterbart, told me was a difficult piece to play. Admittedly, I thought he was a little crazy considering how simple it is. I think what he meant was that it is truly a forlorn piece of music, and expressing that emotion when half the piece is in a major key is challenging. I don't know if I have quite pulled it off, but I tried.

2) This particular song affects me very deeply and reminds me of someone sobbing after a tragedy, like when something happens that makes you really sad and uncontrollably mad at the same time, and your mind is confused about which emotion to feel.

1) I had a little wind-up music box that used to play me to sleep as a child with the ..ore famous Brahms lullaby. The music box is a porcelain figurine of a pretty young woman in a green dress, singing to the baby in her arms, and spinning in a slow circle. This song reminds me of that.
