State of The Nation XIX

Curated by Tiko Gogoberize, aka TINA, Holy Oscillation is a monthly radio show focusing on experimental electroacoustic music and the influence of 20th-century classical composers. The show features musicians from different backgrounds, live performances, and guest music theorists. It provides young musicians and composers a space to collaborate, experiment, and share their work.

  Tamriko Kordzaia had already made a name for herself as a Haydn and Mozart interpreter in her native Georgia. After moving to Switzerland, she continued this work, but increasingly focused on New Music. She has received numerous national and international awards, including first prize and the prize for Mozart interpretation at the Sakai International Competition in Japan. From 2008 to 2023 she was a member of the Mondrian Ensemble, with which she received the Swiss Music Prize in 2018. In addition to working with other instrumentalists, it is above all the often very close collaboration with composers that nourishes her interest in contemporary music. Among many others, important and enriching encounters have been those with Dieter Ammann, Klaus Lang, Alvin Lucier, Felix Profos and Jannik Giger. Her involvement with contemporary music extends far beyond the field of new music, and she also works with musicians from electronic club music, experimental music and jazz-related contexts. She also seeks connections to other artistic disciplines and fields. Her latest formation, Ensemble KIOSK (2021), creates eclectic concert forms with scenographic elements. Tamriko Kordzaia’s repertoire consists of a huge range of solo and duo works, chamber music, world premieres, improvisation and original compositions.

Holy Oscillation w/ TINA Guest Tamriko Kordzaia [18.01.25]

This compilation unites music from Mutant Radio’s friends and residents, with all proceeds directly supporting political prisoners, their families, and activists across different regions of Georgia. The struggle continues until every political prisoner is freed and new elections take place.

Whether on the streets, in our space, or through the airwaves, we remain firmly alongside the movement. Without true freedom, creativity is silenced, culture fades, and Mutant Radio cannot exist.

We extend our gratitude to our friends and residents for their unwavering support and for sharing their music in these challenging times for Georgia.

Lasha Kharkhelauri is a Georgian composer, pianist, and mathematician.
His works have been premiered by various European ensembles and performers. Among them are: Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra, Athens State Orchestra, Divertimento Ensemble, etc. One of the main subjects of his research is microtonality and the interaction of different tuning systems. He also studies the peculiarities of the listener's perception of time when listening to a musical work, as a result of which he manipulates musical time in his own works. The influence of changing musical parameters on the perception of time will be the main topic of the collaboration with TINA.

Sandro Tsikoridze (b.2002) is a musician based in Tbilisi, Georgia. Their music spans a variety of genres and movements, incorporating elements of neoclassical, post minimalist, neo-romantic, and neo-folk music. Their primary artistic interest lies in conveying deeply personal matters intertwined with contemporary salient political issues through music. For them, repetitive patterns and undulating harmonies best resemble tenacious and strenuous efforts immanent to overcoming obstacles and tackling personal struggles

Nino Jvania
After graduating from Tbilisi Conservatoire, Nino Jvania went to Germany to study at the R. Schumann-Hochschule-Düsseldorf. Her interest in contemporary music led her to participations in Stockhausen-courses and prizewinning performances at the Orléan International Piano Competition of the 20th Century Music. She was also the grant holder of the International Ensemble Modern Academy. 

Nino Jvania interest in contemporary music also determined her research activity: she is the author of several scholarly works and a monograph on contemporary piano performance. 2010 and 2013 Nino was a visiting professor and scholar at New England Conservatory and New York University. 2019-2022 she led a research project financed by Rustaveli National Science Foundation, conducting together with composer Eka Chabashvili and pianist Tamar Zhvania the first artistic research in Georgia Piano of the 21st Century and its Future Perspectives. Its final result - the book (incl. DVD) "Artistic Research: Philosophy and Practice" was published in 2022.

Tobias Gerber studied classical saxophone and art theory in Zurich. From 2009 to 2018, he was
a member of the Zurich ensemble WERKTAG, with which he premiered works by Ernstalbrecht
Stiebler, Alex Buess, Edu Haubensak, Dominique Girod, Antoine Chessex and others. As an instrumentalist, Tobias Gerber has participated in countless projects ranging from opera and contemporary chamber music to free improvisation. In addition to his musical activities, he is also an event organizer. He curated the „Generator“ concert series for electronic
music at Zurich University of the Arts from 2014 to 2023, co-curated the „Textures Festival“ at Cafe Oto in London in 2017
and 2019, and has been artistic co-director of the biennial festival for electronic music „Zwei
Tage Strom“ in Zurich since 2013.

Born in Tbilisi and now residing in Philadelphia after years of living a nomadic lifestyle, @sophiasaze began her creative journey in her formative years with classical music and dance training. With a solid and natural musical foundation, Sophia became engulfed by electronic music leading to the launch of her @duskandhaze imprint in 2017, before dropping a remix of Heathered Pearls on Ghostly International and the release of her much-lauded debut album on Kingdoms. 

‘Stalker’ sees her team up with old friend @rdoatk who has been soaking up the dancefloor since the early 90s. With much of his influence stemming from the early east coast rave and club scene, his sound maintains a homage to the past without getting stuck in it. A sucker for a dirty 303, a breakneck amen, or a crushed 909, RDO/ATK’s style spans across genres from jungle to acid to broken beat and everything in-between. 

The EP kicks off with a dynamic, jungle roller entitled ‘Stalker’ featuring old-school, amen breaks, stirring yet intriguing synths and hefty bass shatters balancing styles of glitch and funk together with pure class.
