'Traditional Music of Notional Species Vol. I' is a devastating display of potential which ensures a journey unlike any you have encountered.  In the vast world of electronic music, where sounds, signifiers and gesture's are recontextualized to a numbing degree it is increasingly rare and refreshing to encounter a release as perspective distorting as the debut full length release by Rashad Becker.  The album is a masterpiece of focussed non-referential electronic environments.  It is is both warm, alien, paranoid and exhilarating.  Sounds are stretched in the most unusual manner, foreign bodies are frequent and the structure is simply bewildering.  Split into 'Themes and Dances', the 8 tracks guide the listener through Becker's brave new world.  Despite being entirely synthetic there are sounds which appear like a distortion of the world around us, on occasion 'voice-like' sounds are present, elsewhere there appears the sound of cicada's, only these cicada's are made of mercury and swim through time.

So, it's my next album single, and this time it's a bit crunching. There is a reason for this abomination lacking softness or melody though - the album is called "Human", and it's my attempt to translate some common themes about the human condition, into musical form. And of course not everything about being human is beautiful or pleasant - we experience all sorts of things, and this one is about the impacts of life, in the form of pounding mechanical collisions. It's a club track really, and if you've seen me in recent months you've probably had your face smashed by it a little - sorry about that!

An album that sets out to examine sonic extremes, Max Cooper's debut Human juxtaposes a whole range of electronic styles:  lush orchestration fighting savage distortion, and clinical digital sound anchored by warm analogue grooves.  And nowhere is that restless curiosity to experiment as apparent as the contrast of the first and second singles - first, the delicate and downtempo Adrift, versus this second release, Impacts, the roughest, toughest sampler workout Cooper has produced.
On the album, they're sequenced in a focused line to be the centre of the album's first act and then its midpoint, before the album's more experimental final act.  But as a single on its own?  Impacts is a stop-start stomper that has had festival crowds asking WTF!?!? for months now, and the album's only purely dancefloor moment - as far from voguish k-house sounds as it is.  

But despite the harsh uncompromising sonic contrast - and this is a track that grunts into focus like a sledgehammer picking a fight with a gang of hi-hats - Impacts is, to Cooper's mind, actually something very optimistic.  It's the sound of a person beaten again and again by life, but each time bouncing back and wanting more.

For the remixes, Cooper has gone for two artists with their own take on high-contrast sonics.  Gabe Gurnsey of Factory Floor has folded his band's hypnotic acid tweaking into the original's rasping beats, and Perc has gone balls out with an take-it-or-leave it experimental sub-lead mix for the serious heads and big systems.

La Castañeda was one of the worst asylums in Mexico City, it was closed in 1968 by Gustavo Díaz Ordaz, the Mexican president who promoted the Tlatelolco massacre, under the argument of the torture experienced by the internal patients. today, in that space is the housing unit of the Mixcoac towers, where these musical pieces were composed. 

This release is a commemoration to the people who lived the horrors of the bad psychiatric practices of the last century and the irony and surrealism in the closing of that hospital.

Mwamwa - La Castañeda (ft. Nunca Olvides)(ST087)

For this episode, we’re taking you to the textured, floating world of Nikos, producer, DJ, visual designer and dancefloor conductor with a love for groove and hypnotic storytelling. He has a playful approach and infectious energy, building bridges between sound, movement and visuals.

Nikos is always drawn to the combination of hypnotic elements and groove, often percussion driven and with a lot of texture. “I’m a fanatic dancer myself and also often dj or perform music for dance workshops or events around audience participation. These events give me the freedom to play music with a broader pallet and it is inspiring to see people responding to every sound you are bringing in. 

His sets often travel from ambient soundscapes to heavy rhythmics and back again, but for SKIN, he’s slowed things down:
“For this mix, I wanted to focus on a slower mix with tracks that have a floating feeling, subtle percussion and pulsating basslines.”

Outside the booth, Nikos curates Pelagic, a listening session concept for slower sounds, and Dohm, a party series which is more oriented around dance music, both based in and around Rotterdam.

SKIN #035 Nikos

ACCENTAPE returns with its ninth release, continuing the series’ mission to connect artistic worlds through sound—sometimes by highlighting similarities, other times by leaning into contrast. This time, it’s a meeting in the middle. ACCENTAPE009 is a delicate convergence of tones, textures, and moods—chromatic, soft-edged, and deeply felt. The release pairs London-based Avsluta—known for her organic, atmospheric productions and deeply curated selections behind the decks—with Parisian producer and visual artist Adhémar, whose work channels color and form into weightless, meditative sound. Together, they offer a slow-blooming album that feels perfectly in tune with the season’s quiet shifts: tender light, budding branches, and long, patient days.

Our premiere today is “Black Mamba”—a track that doesn’t bite, but glides. It opens with a haunting spoken-word passage, almost ceremonial in tone, a whisper of myth and power that gradually dissolves into an airy ambient wash. The stillness stretches and morphs, giving way to a restrained tribal rhythm that pulses beneath the surface, guiding the track forward with hypnotic subtlety. Just when it seems to vanish into the ether, melancholic strings emerge, soft but striking—another layer of identity for the Black Mamba, both queenly and ghostlike. It’s a slow spell, not a strike.

Producer and selector based in Bologna, Marco co-founded @sinestesie_s event and mix series. His project is rooted in a multidimensional approach, known for his collaboration with Christian Duka as MARMO, and his solo album Clinamen, released on @omenwapta.

At the crossroads of deep psychedelic techno and tribal sounds, Marco Maldarella dives into the depths of modern electronic music with a fast-paced and intense sonic signature.

For this mix, Marco delivers a raw tribe fast trance experience, where psychedelic elements collide with a dark groove reminiscent of ancient times. Drones, noise, and otherworldly voices define his unique style. The result is an intimate, introspective, and mental journey, featuring many of unreleased tracks.

Aura Sonora returns with a second release to follow up the fantastic first one, this time it brings together two meticulous studio craftsmen, DYL & Tammo Hesselink. Their Moire Patterns EP kicks off with 'Pattern 1', a deep and rhythmic slice of rubbery techno that rides broken beats with atmospheric pulses up top. 'Pattern 2 slows down to a predatory crawl with icy pads making  a dystopian vibe then 'Pattern 3' brings a sense of mystic tribal ritual deep in some futuristic jungle and 'Pattern 4' closes down with more fantastically crafted, dubby, broken rhythms that are topped with organic percussion and almost impossible not to move to. Pure rhythm science brilliance.
