VERY preliminary demo of a new song. First time putting my own material out there. Let me know your thoughts.

Lyrics:

Lenny had a modest flat in town
The walls would shake when trains came round
So he immersed himself in words	
The poor man died not by the sword
But by books that he could not afford
They swooped down like a flock of angry birds

The doctor came and gave his theory
That Lenny’s heart had just grown weary

Cos a heart don’t just get up and give out
No it’s the hard road that wears a good one down
I hope when I’m old and tired of hangin round
That I don’t break, that I keep bending		
And, if my story can’t end happy,
That I’m happy with a mediocre ending

Charlie was less handsome than her friend
She knew how her story would end
So she was prudent and pragmatic
Near enough was good enough
She married sideways ‘stead of up
But still she’s no madwoman in the attic

Housekeeping, home and parish ‘stead of dances
But Charlie made the most of circumstances

I hope when I’m old and tired of hangin round
That I don’t break, that I keep bending	
And, if my story can’t end happy,
That I’m happy with a mediocre ending

There are many kinds of happiness
And some are less exciting than power and glory
And if you worry that you’re settlin’
Then settle in cos sometimes we get no say in our story

Cos it can feel like the road is awful long
But in real life, you gotta just roll on
