Almost exactly a year ago we presented you the first edition of a compilation that should unite almost every Drum and Bass subgenre on one sampler. The integrative idea is so appealing that we now follow up with volume 2 and want to present a selection of tracks with different styles again. The protagonists represented here also result in a colorful potpourri of national, transregional and international artists, some of whom have already made a name for themselves on other labels in the meantime. And so we are pleased that some of the producers are represented twice here, such as Scurrow, who provides the framework for the release with his two very different works. His remix for Bassface Sascha’s “Inside The Rabbit Hole (feat. Trinity)” sets the pyramid on fire right at the start of the compilation. Escape impossible! “There Is No Wifi In The Jungle” marks the end: a breaky jungle slammer for heads that want it percussive and can stand a lot of bass as well. In between, of course, there are also techy tracks, e.g. by Clusta, who can add a VIP crown to his mighty “Cave Of Evil”. With Gisix we have a true debutant who sets a real exclamation mark with his expansive “Poppy” including sawtooth synth! Another slammer comes from new signing Kontrakt from Finland. “Network” is a hectic number, metaphorically speaking somewhere between tangled cables and stressed office colleagues. Low Performance also made his debut for us and is here with the grinding “Call Of Cthulhu” that would make every tunnel drill green with envy. The deeper pieces come once again from the favorite Italian Petarda, with Elektronik VIP soaring up to an uplifting sound aesthetic and Petarda actually only initiates us into one of his another dark sound secrets with “Nostalgy”. CURRENT VALUE returns to OTHERCIDE RECORDS for the release of his FAR LAYER EP, which displays the furthest expanses of his sonic realm in true devotion to its title. With his past on OTHERCIDE RECORDS marked by 2016’s Rethink EP, CURRENT VALUE’s recent efforts have seen releases on labels such as Blackout, Invisible, & Methlab Recordings. Now returning to OTHERCIDE RECORDS, CURRENT VALUE debuts a four track EP that carries his aberrantly innovative sound further onwards to new boundaries.  DISPELLING FEAR opens the EP with reverent string swells that soar alongside a ethereal vocal before diving at full force into the track’s torrential drumbeat. Within, they are twisted and warped by the volatile harmonic environment within into surging basslines and oscillating highs in equal measure. The titular FAR LAYER immediately discards with any semblance of convention, opting instead to create a an idyllic sonic landscape that hangs effortlessly in the air. Driven by a delicate piano arpeggio, the track swells calmly to a lush crescendo before fading into nothingness with similar grace. Following such a melodic interlude, FERROMAGNETIC provides harsh metallic textures which create an exercise in contrast, wrapped tightly around the track’s pulverizing drums for a devastating mechanical fusion. The EP then closes with PHOTOELECTRIC, which doubles down on the distortion of its predecessor with its dissonant bell tones and shredded bassline ending the look into CURRENT VALUE’s FAR LAYER with a decisive tone.  FAR LAYER thus explores a diverse range of sonic environments, from its most beautiful melodics to its most visceral basslines all of which are unified by the technical precision and otherworldly tones of CURRENT VALUE as they transmit via OTHERCIDE RECORDS.
