Deep within the hegemonic core cluster, the brutal and deadly form of the ship Helion cruised with deadly intent across the gravity well of Arkana, the seat of the ruling elite. In its wake, the unraveling, doomed form of the defence moon Scarecrow tumbled across the planetary shore, untethered from its anchor of aeons – core breached and leaking into the vast cold vacuum. The crew stared out over the destruction, the horror of permanent nothingness at such a scale penetrating deep; millions of warriors erased out of existence by the ship’s darkmatter device in a moment with the tearing of the moon. On the surface of Arkana below, the effects were already being felt, with tidal waves towering over urban habitations, and the planetary plates starting to heave and twist in reaction to the forever-changed physics. The planetscape was contorting to a new form, its body now free from the pull of its closest moon, mindless to the destruction wrought upon the tiny beings and colonies that lay upon its surface. As death itself swept across the circumference of the orb, they observed from the safety of their superweapon high above… the planetary destroyer Helion, decades in the making and the last hope to free themselves from the tyranny of their brutal overlords - the violent breaker of their peoples’ chains.
 
Following their biggest year yet – with more than 30 live events worldwide, 14 EPs and 2 LPs in their wake - EATBRAIN enter 2017 with a powerful statement in the form of evolved entity SYNERGY (formerly Segment & Concept Vision, whose Mammoth EP was one of 2016’s most successful releases). The HELION EP delivers a heavy payload with 5 tracks of brutally refined neuro destruction from the onset, with title track HELION weaving between heavy rattling distortion and precise break insertions that evolve into an aggressively syncopated 2 step attack. WARRIOR SOUND issues an ultimate call to arms laid down by Miss Trouble’s pointed vocal and a lean and heavy halfstep futurerave beat, whilst halftime slash drumstep hybrid SCARECROW delivers a powerful wave of insanity with its heavy onslaught. ARKANA and DESTROYER pull heavy gut punches with their tear-out upbeat vibes that are certain to be ripping up Eatbrain dancefloors around the planet.

The next producer to bless our arsenal with absolute dut is Neve. With a back-catalogue likely to make any discerning dnb head's eyes water, we're gassed to present two more slices of aggy dancing-music from the Italian neuro wizard. Many years in the game as an active DJ have honed Neve's talents; a high level of technical proficiency, and an acute ear that informs both his own productions and the stamina of his own label, The Dreamers. 

A-side 'Micron' is a white-knuckle roller, ultra-tight bass programming stutters and spurts over a choppy, technical break, with pepperings of ravey synths and vocals raising the temperature significantly, one of them ones that takes your legs out from right underneath you on the drop. 

The flip 'Please Rhythm' somehow manages to increase the energy even further, starting as an echoic nightmare-scape, it then drops into a sensory overload of stabby bass and relentless snares, the kind of tune that has you breathing a sigh of relief when it finally chucks you a regular drum break to grasp onto amidst the madness; dancefloor confusion GUARANTEED. 

Alien bass design and fierce energy is the hallmark of this release; grab it before all ya mates get there first!

Deep within the core of their sprawling annex, The Institution’s top minds worked diligently at their insidious craft. Their hands moved swiftly, as they worked relentlessly with the sharp tools of their mind; warping words, images, and sounds to fit their malevolent narrative. Their objective was singular, complete control exercised from the shadows, profits reaped from beyond the veil of obscurity. Trust, that most hallowed principle, was nothing to them but a tool of manipulation, exercised to to legitimize their empire. The plan was simple, a classic diversion operated on a massive scale. The creation of an enemy, the eternal outsider, one against whom the public must remain vigilant. Composed of a paradox, the outsider posed no threat, yet could never be vanquished. Instead, his reputation and the shadow of his fearful influence would loom as a spectre, a shade of darkness designed to haunt the masses. Their fear would drive them into the protection of The Institution, shepherded in the manner of livestock. From there, the extension of their complete control would be assured. The machinations of its minds completed, The Institution began its program of domination in full, disseminating its precisely produced PROPAGANDA amongst the public.

Their message was erected upon the walls of their great city, proliferated throughout the mailboxes of its citizens, and across the webpages of it their tightly controlled digital network. Their message spread with viral efficiency. The citizens’ response was sublimely realised, a surge of fear through the populace, shepherding them into the arms of The Institute as they sought security in the face of the threat birthed in pure imagination. Security, The Institution was more than happy to provide; promising strength in the face of the mysterious menace. The Institution’s agents felt the power of their positions strengthen throughout the city, soon holding its highest offices in their grip, putting greater tools of control in their hands. Initiatives were passed, laws enacted, and the vaults of the city drained. The streets were the conduit of their fear, their PROPAGANDA campaign continuing in the fearful whispers of the citizens carrying the fear of The Outsider’s presence. The cycle was set, justification freely given out of fear. The Institute’s diabolic machinations ran as pure as the fear that coursed through the city.

The man pulling the strings behind the revered EATBRAIN imprint, JADE, returns for his second release of the year on his home label with the fiercely executed PROPAGANDA EP, featuring the veteran skills of RIDO. Following on from the much-acclaimed AWAKE EP, Jade powerfully demonstrates that he’s back in the studio and putting his veteran knowledge of what functions on the Eatbrain dancefloor to effective use. Delivering two fresh, tech-infused DnB bangers, along with a faster tempo VIP of fan favourite MAN EATING LIZARD DRAGON, as well as a further strut in the unfolding genre mechanism of slow and meaty neuro in SPY CAR, the PROPAGANDA EP delivers the Eatbrain manifesto in exquisite form. Since its inception in 2018, Maztek’s 0101 Music has gone from strength to strength, catering for a vast array of styles of drum and bass ranging from neurofunk to halftime. Having already springboarded the careers of emerging talents like nabepro and Bad District, the Dutch label’s Divison imprint now returns with its first compilation album, one of its most ambitious outings to date. Weighing in at a whopping seventeen tracks, Sonic Codes Vol. 1 features a combination of longstanding signees and deserving newcomers, all hand-picked for inclusion by Maztek himself to make for a gargantuan LP.
Close followers of the label’s developments will no doubt be pleased to see residents like Binary and Alerstorm contributing exclusive cuts to the new project; in fact, it even features the pair’s first ever collaboration, a barbed, mechanical number entitled “Siege”. Neurofunk aficionados will recognise a number of familiar faces making their label debuts, too: Germany’s Kaiza, whose recent contributions to Bad Taste, Citrus and Red Light have marked him out as one to watch, appears twice on the compilation, teaming up with Vertex and Fearend on the syncopated heater “Papercut” and banding together with his C4C-approved crew Instinkt for the stuttering stepper “Serpens”. Meanwhile, seasoned Belgian badman Taos showcases his gritty synth work on “Ungreyed Tones”, and the fast-rising Belarusian trio Psynchro – whose recent output includes appearances on RAM, Eatbrain and Cyberfunk – turn in “Composite”, a cinematic number punctuated by garbled basslines and murmuring subs.
True to form, Maztek has also unearthed a whole host of little-known production wizards, sourced from right across the globe. The enigmatic Loded offers up a jittering, jagged belter entitled “Break Out”, while Italy’s Eclict teams up with fellow newcomer FMD&B for the neuro juggernaut “Turbolence” and London tag team Edison & SMP excel with the dark, percussive creeper “Ganglands”. With all this and more on offer over the course of the LP, there’s plenty to get stuck into…
