Hospital Record’s soulful drum and bass aficionado Makoto is back with his seventh studio album, ‘Motion Of Change’. Following on from his popular ‘What You Need’ EP and the vibrant ‘Maybe We’ll Make It (feat. Mark Force and Archaik)’, his new album brings a blend of jungle, jazz, funk, and soul with Makoto’s signature euphoric touch. With over twenty years in the game, Makoto’s immaculate discography and signature sound have seen the Japanese born producer pave the way for liquid drum & bass all the way into 2022. A true pioneer of his craft since his Good Looking Records days of the late 90s, he’s since racked up an impressive amount of releases on Innerground, UKF, Liquid V and his very own imprint Human Elements.

More recently, Makoto’s output includes his two Hospital albums ‘Salvation’ (2017) and ‘Tomodachi Sessions’ (2019), and the hugely popular ‘What You Need’ ft Vonne selected as the first ever drum & bass track to be played on Sarah Story’s BBC Radio 1 Future Dance show, alongside support from the likes of DJ Marky, Bryan Gee, Flava D, Nu:Tone, Lenzman and more.

The motivational ‘Step Into Your Power’ features ravishing vocals from rising D+B superstar Ruth Royall. Makoto’s production skills don’t go a miss as he cooks up luscious pad hits and a booming bottom end. With the pair recently releasing the flavourful ‘New Love’ on Soulvent Records, expect good vibes galore as two of the most uplifting sound suppliers in drum & bass collide once again.

Makoto unleashes spaced out synth work, soulful guitar licks and a dynamic crescendo of instrumentation on album title track ‘Motion Of Change’ with Hospital Records’ latest signing, the immensely talented singer-songwriter, SOLAH delivering sweet melodies and majestic high notes.

Makoto travels into deeper territories on ‘Explorer’ ft Degs, as he provides grittier production complete with a moody bassline. Labelmate and multi-talented vocalist, MC and producer Degs dishes out a slew of dynamic bars and dreamy harmonies for the pair’s first collaboration since ‘Illuminate’ on Makoto’s ‘Tomodachi Sessions’ in 2019.

Embracing his love for the original sound of the 90’s, the junglistic instrumental ‘Ascender’ brings future-retro synthesis, crisp cut breakbeats and a summery ambience that lays the foundation for the perfect sub-heavy slammer.

Makoto and London-based singer Karina Ramage reunite on ‘Without You’ after previously collaborating on ‘Shine On Through’, ‘I Don’t Wanna Wake Up’ and Forza favourites ‘Wading Through The Crowds’ and ‘Trial Mountain’. Karina’s soothingly crafted vocals compliment the sincere violins and trademark production prowess from Makoto, making ‘Without You’ another future soulful singalong anthem.

The album also features an eclectic mixture of both fresh and legendary talent from across the drum & bass circuit and beyond, brace yourself for a dynamic streak of sonic contributions from the likes of Singing Fats, Cleveland Watkiss, Liane Carroll, Lauren Archer, Rasmus Faber, Pete Simpson, LXT, and Helena May. Hospital Records’ São Paulo discovery Urbandawn is a serious contender. After releasing two popular EPs with the label and spending several months determined in the studio his debut album ‘Gothenburg Cluster’ is ready.

Seventeen tracks of sophisticated sound design unite punching drum beats, funk ridden riffs and huge cinematic explorations. The experienced audio engineer not only draws from his Brazilian roots but also the more niche rock, metal and folk bands of the Swedish mid 90’s scene. It’s this distinctive spin on drum & bass that’s grown support from the scene's heavyweights over the last two years.

It was ‘Trindade’ - discovered deep in Hospital’s demo box - that first brought Urbandawn to London Elektricity’s attention. He's been tipped as 'The Future Sound of Brazil' with ‘Messiah Complex’ and ‘Pavlov’s Dog’ that have stayed permanently in the label boss' record box and getting dancefloor’s moving across the world.

‘Still Breathing’ featuring Med School prodigy Keeno, is an emotive match of ethereal piano and staccato strings. Deep within the hegemonic core cluster, the brutal and deadly form of the ship Helion cruised with deadly intent across the gravity well of Arkana, the seat of the ruling elite. In its wake, the unraveling, doomed form of the defence moon Scarecrow tumbled across the planetary shore, untethered from its anchor of aeons – core breached and leaking into the vast cold vacuum. The crew stared out over the destruction, the horror of permanent nothingness at such a scale penetrating deep; millions of warriors erased out of existence by the ship’s darkmatter device in a moment with the tearing of the moon. On the surface of Arkana below, the effects were already being felt, with tidal waves towering over urban habitations, and the planetary plates starting to heave and twist in reaction to the forever-changed physics. The planetscape was contorting to a new form, its body now free from the pull of its closest moon, mindless to the destruction wrought upon the tiny beings and colonies that lay upon its surface. As death itself swept across the circumference of the orb, they observed from the safety of their superweapon high above… the planetary destroyer Helion, decades in the making and the last hope to free themselves from the tyranny of their brutal overlords - the violent breaker of their peoples’ chains.
 
Following their biggest year yet – with more than 30 live events worldwide, 14 EPs and 2 LPs in their wake - EATBRAIN enter 2017 with a powerful statement in the form of evolved entity SYNERGY (formerly Segment & Concept Vision, whose Mammoth EP was one of 2016’s most successful releases). The next producer to bless our arsenal with absolute dut is Neve. With a back-catalogue likely to make any discerning dnb head's eyes water, we're gassed to present two more slices of aggy dancing-music from the Italian neuro wizard. Many years in the game as an active DJ have honed Neve's talents; a high level of technical proficiency, and an acute ear that informs both his own productions and the stamina of his own label, The Dreamers. 

A-side 'Micron' is a white-knuckle roller, ultra-tight bass programming stutters and spurts over a choppy, technical break, with pepperings of ravey synths and vocals raising the temperature significantly, one of them ones that takes your legs out from right underneath you on the drop. 

The flip 'Please Rhythm' somehow manages to increase the energy even further, starting as an echoic nightmare-scape, it then drops into a sensory overload of stabby bass and relentless snares, the kind of tune that has you breathing a sigh of relief when it finally chucks you a regular drum break to grasp onto amidst the madness; dancefloor confusion GUARANTEED. 

Alien bass design and fierce energy is the hallmark of this release; grab it before all ya mates get there first!

Deep within the core of their sprawling annex, The Institution’s top minds worked diligently at their insidious craft. Their hands moved swiftly, as they worked relentlessly with the sharp tools of their mind; warping words, images, and sounds to fit their malevolent narrative. Their objective was singular, complete control exercised from the shadows, profits reaped from beyond the veil of obscurity. Trust, that most hallowed principle, was nothing to them but a tool of manipulation, exercised to to legitimize their empire. The plan was simple, a classic diversion operated on a massive scale. The creation of an enemy, the eternal outsider, one against whom the public must remain vigilant. Composed of a paradox, the outsider posed no threat, yet could never be vanquished. Instead, his reputation and the shadow of his fearful influence would loom as a spectre, a shade of darkness designed to haunt the masses. Their fear would drive them into the protection of The Institution, shepherded in the manner of livestock. From there, the extension of their complete control would be assured. The machinations of its minds completed, The Institution began its program of domination in full, disseminating its precisely produced PROPAGANDA amongst the public.

Their message was erected upon the walls of their great city, proliferated throughout the mailboxes of its citizens, and across the webpages of it their tightly controlled digital network. Their message spread with viral efficiency. The citizens’ response was sublimely realised, a surge of fear through the populace, shepherding them into the arms of The Institute as they sought security in the face of the threat birthed in pure imagination. Security, The Institution was more than happy to provide; promising strength in the face of the mysterious menace. The Institution’s agents felt the power of their positions strengthen throughout the city, soon holding its highest offices in their grip, putting greater tools of control in their hands. Initiatives were passed, laws enacted, and the vaults of the city drained. The streets were the conduit of their fear, their PROPAGANDA campaign continuing in the fearful whispers of the citizens carrying the fear of The Outsider’s presence. The cycle was set, justification freely given out of fear. The Institute’s diabolic machinations ran as pure as the fear that coursed through the city.

The man pulling the strings behind the revered EATBRAIN imprint, JADE, returns for his second release of the year on his home label with the fiercely executed PROPAGANDA EP, featuring the veteran skills of RIDO. Following on from the much-acclaimed AWAKE EP, Jade powerfully demonstrates that he’s back in the studio and putting his veteran knowledge of what functions on the Eatbrain dancefloor to effective use. Delivering two fresh, tech-infused DnB bangers, along with a faster tempo VIP of fan favourite MAN EATING LIZARD DRAGON, as well as a further strut in the unfolding genre mechanism of slow and meaty neuro in SPY CAR, the PROPAGANDA EP delivers the Eatbrain manifesto in exquisite form.
