Once upon a time

Tim Ellerbe is no stranger to music. He is the second of four children born to musician parents, though he did not develop an interest in music until the age of ten. At that age he began to practice daily on his neighbor’s piano, hammering out familiar melodies of favorite songs and television shows.

By age fifteen Tim was writing and recording his own songs in a friend’s basement studio. Being a fan of so many different genres, it was difficult for Tim to find his true musical voice until he heard the first CD by Fiona Apple. So enamored was he by her poetic lyrics and piano skills, Tim began to focus on developing his niche and found that smooth Jazz was his preferred style.

Around the age of twenty-seven, Tim began to tour the States with 70’s soul group Enchantment (Gloria, It’s you that I need). Ten years of live performance taught Tim many lessons about entertaining an audience. He left the band at the age of 38 and formed his own Gospel group with his wife and daughter called the Tim Ellerbe Project and they continue to perform at various functions as well as weekly services at their own home Church.

A chance meeting with Toni Jennings, an old school friend, helped to reignite Tim’s passion for his own music. He placed Ms. Jennings in charge of his career and began to write and record again. His second jazz project, Nightdance is his latest release and he is hard at work on its followup.

Tim’s influences run the gamut from Terri Lynn Carrington to Fiona Apple to Deon Yates to Grover Washington Jr. to Esperanza Spaulding. He is equally a fan of traditional Jazz as well as some of the more contemporary styles, particularly Jazz-rock.

Totally at home before an audience, Tim has shared the stage with such artists as Crystal P., Jill Grandison, Michael Elder, Everett Boone and many more. Having recently teamed up with dynamic Detroit vocalist Reece Clark, Tim looks forward to a long and successful music career.
