Vlinders in de lucht was written in late 2010, originally for Thomas and Sebastiaan Dulfer, to be performed at the Princess Christina Competition 2011. The piece is about the dazzling impression of flying butterflies.

Ba, a boy who is a voice student, awakes one day. From that moment everything seems to go wrong: his toothbrushes are worn, his self-baked bread burns, and the bus he takes collides with a cat. As he arrives at his voice lesson, he doesn’t remember the melody of the piece he had to prepare. When his teacher decides to practice another piece, things are turning the other way around…

‘De plaat blijft hangen’ means ‘broken record’ in English. I guess that should say enough...

Sto lat, based on the Polish birthday song with the same name, was composed for the Omega Impact ensemble.
Performed and recorded during Spring Festival, 3rd of April 2017 at Korzo theatre.

Waiting for love was written for the minor World Music Composition in Practice by Oscar van Dillen. The piece is inspired by the Indian raga tradition, which was surveyed in the lessons.
Performed and recorded on 15th of March 2017, at WMDC Rotterdam during the minor WMCP concert.

Waiting for love

Nature and openness were important inspirations for writing this piece, which was written for the annual procession concerts at the Haagse Bos and Rhijnhof cemetery. Long, communicative tones form the backbone of this piece, as if the instruments are in a conversation. 'Angels are calling' reflects on the connection between heaven and earth in its most abstract form.

The Holland Festival has been going for seventy years, and this event was used by a young group of music-theatre makers to which I belonged, to organise a musical party at Amsterdam Leidseplein. We used the balcony to organise mini-concerts using grand gestures from Leidseplein. During the concerts, the Stadsschouwburg was turned into a gigantic birthday cake.
For our performances we were inspired by the opera Reconstruction (written for Holland Festival 1969) about Che Guevara, an Argentine revolutionary. Reconstruction was created collectively, like this performance. The opera had the form of an alphabet. This performance consisted of ideas put together, which referred to letters from the alphabet. L is Love is one excerpt from it.
