The instrumentation follows the verse structure.   The first verse is "If I had a hammer," and I've used the agogo (Nigerian cowbell) as my hammer sound.   The second verse is "If I had a bell," and I use tubular bells in that.   The third verse is "If I had a song to sing," and I use the voice timbres there.   And they all come together in the final verse "I got a hammer.  And I've got a bell.  And I've got a song to sing..."   Once again the instruments line up with the lyrics.
