DIRTCAST #50 | Nachtbraker

@RalphLawson from @2020Vision made his Sub Club debut on the very same night as a young Glaswegian DJ called Domenic Cappello in 1992.  He has since been a regular guest over the years while Domenic went on to become the resident DJ for Subculture. It seems fitting that both 2020Vision and Subculture celebrate 20 years in the game in 2014 as they have both stuck to their guns and consistently provided people with sounds from the underground over those years. 

This mix was recorded the week before 2020Vision brought their Content tour to Subculture on October 4th with Lawson and Ejeca taking over the controls. Lawson dives into his memories of times spent in The Subbie over those years and pulls out a selection of bona fide classics that have rocked the club. Recorded in one take to get a live feel. DJ W!ld is the Parisian who's been nailing Ibiza since becoming a Circoloco resident in 2010.

This year on the White Isle was no different for him, appearing on line-ups with the likes of Seth Troxler, The Martinez Brothers, Art Department and Carl Cox at DC-10's revered party. That's not the only place he wowed the crowd with his sets that traverse deep, driving techno, hypnotic house and disco, though, also doing his thing at Ceremony in London, Kerri Chandler's birthday at Zig Zag in Paris and Barcelona's Razzmatazz this summer.

This time Moon Harbour Radio host Dan Drastic invites Maximiljan who lives in Amsterdam but actually is a German from the city of Neuss. Maximiljan’s No Space EP will be released 20th October on Moon Harbour. In his set Maximiljan captures his trademark sound of dark and groovy Deep House perfectly. In the first hour of the show Dan Drastic introduces us to new tracks by DeWalta, Einzelkind, Dance Spirit, Huxley and Alland Byallo, amongst others.

Today we're featuring UK talent Shur-i-kan in the mix series, an accomplished keyboard player who cut his teeth working in various bands in London and longtime contributor to improvisational dance super group The Bays. 

Shur-i-kan has been an important figure in the development of Jimpsters' celebrated Freerange Records label - a relationship that stretches all the way back to 2001 and has left a legacy of two studio albums and a string of classic house EPs that include Living Inside, I Want It, Future Fantasy and One Night In Tokyo.

Bristol's best young house duo flex their muscle.

There's nothing spectacular about the Outboxx story: it's simply two great, young producers (Jacob 'Hodge' Martin and Matt Lambert) releasing a steady stream of excellent singles, and in 2013, an excellent debut album. It is a timely tale, however: the duo seemed to emerge in tandem with Bristol's shift from a city focused on dread and sub-bass to house and techno, with Chris Farrell's Idle Hands taking over from Peverelist's Rooted Records as its key record shop.

Of course, things are never quite that black and white, but Outboxx's embrace of the lighter side of house (although their music is never fluffy, it does relish dreamy atmospherics, nimble grooves and the odd hands-in-the-air moment) does seem to match up perfectly with Idle Hands' arrival on the scene, and it's no coincidence that the store's in-house label has released several of Outboxx's 12"s, as well as their debut album. They're happy to spread the love, though, and Outboxx productions have recently been housed on Futureboogie, Local Talk and, most, recently BRSTL, with a new single out this week.

Outboxx's FACT mix slips by like a dream, packed with piano leads, wompy basslines and rushes of 909 hats. Sure, it's nothing that hasn't been done before, but few are currently doing it better. Dilla, Genius of Time, Leon Vynehall and more feature.
