“The Warrior" is about being socially conscious, about seeing what's "not-so-right" with the world today, its flawed hierarchies, history and social constructs and moving on strongly despite or because of it. It's about keeping true to yourself and not compromising on values or beliefs just to fit in and be liked. It's about a protest to subtle injustices. 

It's about going through love and emerging a stronger and better version of yourself. It's about having dreams beyond yourself where all the world is free territory to realize your dreams. But at the same time, it's also about the demons, fear and barriers that lie within that keep us procrastinating on our destiny.

But mostly, it is about respecting warriors; celebrating people who have struggled and emerged while remembering those who have fallen as well. This is my personal homage to the spirit of…

Tim De Cotta is back with his first single off his upcoming “Heart Matter” EP, with a track called ‘Lying Eyes’. 

Written from the one of the different perspectives of love that Tim explores in his new EP, he says, “I realised that as I always write songs about love and happiness based on my personal experience of how it's strong and resilient, that I might be missing other experiences of it; so I imagined a darker story, based on a situation where the protagonist catches his significant other cheating.” 

Based in late 80s, dance funk and RnB music in the vein of Michael Jackson, Bobby Brown and ‘later-discography’ The Whispers, “Lying Eyes” lays the groove hard off the bat, pushing every funky knuckle before Tim’s raspy verses enter. The song takes you through a journey from the point where the protagonist feels that something isn’t right, till he finds his worst fears have come through but proceeds to try and rise above it by being strong and moving on; all while dancing it off as the song reaches its groove climaxes. 

The song also features the silky and ethereal Rhodes and synthesiser solos of NAzTyKeys, with the tight pocket of Josiah Suthan’s drumming and imaginative percussion parts. Leo Goh from Souldot studios adds the funky guitar icing on the cake, on top of, mixing and mastering this number as well. 

“Lying Eyes” is available for listening (and dancing) on all platforms on 24 July 2020.

Lying Eyes - Tim De Cotta

On the first teaser track of the 2020 schedule, Tim De Cotta teams up with Evanturetime, a usual collaboration-suspect and unknown rapper, wordsmith Bobbi Brown on a song entitled, “Mr. Withers” which seeks to pay homage to the late and great Mr. Bill Withers; famous for hits like “Lean on Me” and “Lovely Day”. 

“Mr. Withers” a standalone collaboration, talks about hope and strength in the face of bleaker times; where Tim defiantly chants, “We won’t wither” before Bobbi Brown bares his soul, holding onto that string of hope as things around us seem to crumble. 

It’s about leaning on each other, hoping in the best of days are to come if we believe we won't be done frail by life and it's many setbacks. It's a tribute to Bill’s spirit and tenacity, that kept him true to his music and message as much as possible, in a rapidly changing world; something we can all aspire to.

Rest in Peace & Power Mr. Withers...

In collaboration with the ArtScience Museum, Tim De Cotta releases “Transition” his latest single, in conjunction with a short thought film he filmed in quarantine about the changes happening in 2020, his return to creating music and his thoughts about the human condition:

Transitions are important parts of life and growth. In nature we transit through seasons. As a planet part of a solar system we transition through time. 

As human beings we transition through life. The process of change and adaptation is an inevitable one. Changes ignite meaning and force us to confront the old with the new. Life is full of moments of change and transition, and these moments define the trajectory of it. 

For each and every one of us, transition is a very personal and unique experience but at the same time, big changes around us and in our world and beyond, can be equally felt by all of us. How we then process our reaction to this change defines who we become and how we make our choices that in turn lead to the other changes and transitions to come. 

What I’ve learnt from this latest time of transition in our lives, in the vivid year 2020, is that:

Change is the only reality. 
Time is an illusion. 
Age is a process. 
Death, the most logical outcome.

I’ve learnt that dealing with life, is loosely about, being able to distil how we feel, connect with those around us, alter our perspectives to  confront our challenges and imagine ways to solve them and start new futures. 

I’ve been saved by my imagination repeatedly once I slowly began to learn how to distil it into reality.

This time has allowed me to use my instincts again.
To take stock; to process how the world makes me feel, to process my place in it; to separate through the anxiety and depression 
of our current condition and to remember what it felt like to give myself hope in every single moment.

Then I remembered who I was, what I was and I breathed;
and I did what I instinctively knew.

I created something. A song called “Transition”.”

Transition

Tim is back with his second single off his upcoming EP, with a track called ‘When I Met You’. 

In “When I Met You” Tim recalls the first moment he meets the would-be love of his life. This nostalgic romantic encounter gets immortalised in song as Tim serves delicate vocals to paint the picture of when he first laid eyes on the woman who would be his future wife. 

With a beat that pays tribute to the likes of J Dilla and Stan Getz, with groove and bass arrangements reminiscent of Stevie Wonder, Tim puts longing, wistful vocals on the track remembering the seeds of love that would change his life. 

The journey then leads into one of the most love-inspired freestyles ever by young rapper Ghetti, who shares how the one he loves is all that matters, praying that he will always get to profess his love to her, the subject of his unending affection. 

“When I Met You” a love song about a love story, will be available on all digital platforms on 28 Aug 2020. 

This single is a part of Tim’s upcoming Heart Matter EP that will drop late 2020.
