Pianist, composer, performer. Tiziano Popoli produces musical projects, sound installations and soundtracks for video, cinema, theater and dance. His interests includes minimalism, sound experimentation, ethnic - traditional music, field recording, and interactive arts. He has been at the forefront of Italian electronic music since the mid 1980's.

In the words of Tiziano himself: 

"In Lingua Mortuorum (something like " In the Language of the People Dead”) is an unreleased piece for magnetic tape from 1989, largely made by manipulating classical music and home made recordings. The title alludes to a “talk of the dead”. In this work I was inspired by the positions of the people killed by the eruption of Vesuvius, as can be seen in Pompeii. As if they were alive, as if they could move and talk. Last year I found this tape in my archive and digitized it, then I sent the file to some friends, Riccardo Sinigaglia, Paolo Modugno and Paolo Venturi, asking them to play freely on the piece. Everyone played on the "base" without listening to the tracks of the others In the end I edited all the material and… voila."

This 16 min+ single comes in the physical form of a Limited Edition, one sided 12" lathe cut record. Adhered to the somewhat distressed back side of each of the 50 copies is a uniquely different vintage x-ray that has been scratched and scarred, and then hand lettered with vintage Letraset rub on lettering. In effect, this is the TRS version of the infamous "bone music" x-ray records released in Russia in the 50's and 60's...although ours will sound quite a bit better! As usual these records were cut at Bladud Flies, in Wales, UK.

There will also be a full, CD version of the album with 4 other tracks, which will be available at the time this record ships, in mid October. Everyone that buys the lathe cut record in advance will also get a copy of the CD as well, and the two will ship together in October when they are ready.

Of course the CD will be available to purchase separately as well, in mid October.

This is a snippet from the electro-acoustic "soundtrack" to the glitch novel by cult Japanese writer, Kenji Siratori. The music is by Canadian duo, Wormwood. Each copy of the AI infused novel comes with an accompanying CD.

Feb 2nd sees the release of this new album of introspective and electronically tinged piano miniatures from our favorite French composer, Catherine Watine! This is our 4th release with Catherine, and once again in her own melancholic and melodic fashion she has fit our aural aesthetic perfectly. These beautiful little pieces will have you dreaming of rainy Parisian afternoons, clockwork mechanisms and mysterious encounters of the heart.  

TRS is also responsible for the packaging and design of the Deluxe limited vinyl version of the album, this time in an edition of only 40 copies. Once again we have taken liberties with the original artwork from the standard vinyl version, once again created by the incomparable graphiste et magicienne, @vel.visual…aka Caroline Lysiak. The piano in her original artwork has been cut open by @mariachenut, hand-stitched around with twine, with the inside filled with vintage musical notes, cloth flowers and netting, and then attached to 1950’s Classical music boxes in a 3 dimensional manner. Inside the box is the original printed textual insert, a unique, engraved coversheet from a 100+ year old sheet music songbook, and in the back, nestled in folded, textured book binding paper is one of a variety of types of antique, metal music box discs. Each box then comes in an oversized poly-bag.

We will also have limited quantities of the standard vinyl version as well, at our TRS Bandcamp page, where of course it is also available in a digital form, if you must!

As explained by the artist himself...

"The album is, to a large degree, about family and the east end of London where I'm from. I feel guilt about having distanced myself from the people and places of my childhood. My mum was one of three sisters, their dad died when she was 17 (everyone called him Poppy - hence my pseudonym) - and I was very close to their mum/my nan who herself died relatively young. So, the record is about losing the first of my uncles on my mums side, and how it compelled me to evoke an imagined image of post-war London (when they were born) - and with it a darkness, melancholy but also a bittersweet nostalgia."
