In the first week of September we’re heading to the beautiful scenery of Tisno, Croatia, to celebrate the first edition of Dekmantel Selectors. In the run up to the festival, we’re launching a new temporary podcast-series where we invite ten of our selectors from the festival to dig deep in their unique collections. The idea behind the mix is to create a Time Document, focusing on a specific period of time with the artist being free in choosing this period. This period could in fact entail anything: a certain decennia, the time he or she fell in love, The Cold War, November ’92 – March ’93, or the rise of Nigerian music. It’s up to the Selectors to choose and tell us a story based on their music collection.

We’re kicking-off our series with a Selectors Time Document from Frenchman Gilbert Cohen, better known as Gilb'R. As a DJ, solo producer, member of Chateau Flight and Aladdin, and head of the long-running Versatile label, Cohen has kept himself rather busy over the years. In this time Gilb'R became a pivotal figure in the legacy of French underground music. More and more operating under his Gilb’R guise these days, Cohen brings an encyclopedic musical knowledge and playful French touch to his DJ sets. His time document spans more than 20 years of music. As Gilb’R just moved to Amsterdam, after living in France for ages, his mix consists of music right out of the moving boxes that made the trip from Paris to the Dutch capital. 

Cohen explains his idea behind his Selectors Time Document mix. "I feel very honoured to have been asked to kick-off the new Selectors Podcast series. Recently, I moved many records from Paris to Amsterdam, so I had to make a selection of the ones that really meant something to me, and get rid of the rest. I’ve never been a collector, but I always bought records I liked. As I like loads of different music, you can hopefully hear that in the mix as well. Some of the records are skipping, crackling and you can hear weird noises, but it reflects the things l’ve always loved for the last twenty years. The selection is pretty random: I picked one record per box from my shelves. The mix was supposed to be 20 tracks for 20 years of Versatile, but one is missing and I didn't want to make it too long. Sit back, relax and I hope you’ll enjoy it."

Our dear protégé and talented DJ Onelight finally comes out with his first EP. The French Riviera native takes his inspiration from many different types of sounds and is well known as a true partisan of sweetness and emotions when djing. Therefore, he grew up all these influences together and delivers two powerful and unconventional tracks.
It is all about funk first with «Tuggspeedman», a contagious track bringing back lovely 80’s arps, nicely mixed with more contemporary beats & sounds. This is the true inspiration of a «Low Club» hit in fact, absolutely approuved by Fulgeance himself, Musique Large label boss.
«Turquoi$e», the second track of this EP, is touched by heart from futuristic soul & R’n’B, two styles that Onelight perfectly combines with a precise post- step mood. It appears like a fantastic slow jam where organics and synthetics sounds come together to create this epic and emotional climax.
Brilliant DJ and producer Orgasmic from Sound Pellegrino team (alongside Teki Latex and also producer for TTC or Fuzati) concludes the EP with an astonishing remix of the eponymous track Tuggspeedman, between techno and electronica, definitely for clubs.

A cosmic, phased-out percussion adventure by Shimshon Miel, a lone-wolf hippie from Tel-Aviv who experimented with hallucinogenic psych-folk, and self-released his only album in 1977. Fortuna Records reissues two of the album's killer cuts for the very first time, alongside a late-night club edit by Kalbata. Expect extra trippy percussion soundscapes layered on top of a thumping bass guitar in wild 70's style stereo action. Kalbata's remix is a straight up voodoo ritual, adding much needed 808 subs to the jacked-up original.
