HOSH's fryhide label is back with a first EP that is from an artist other than the boss himself. That artist is Tim Engelhardt, a fast rising German wunderkind who serves up four fantastic tracks that prove why he is going to go on to big things. It is a great signing by H.O.S.H. and one that makes another standout EP on his young but impressive label.

Engelhardt is currently riding high off the success of his recent album, Moments of Truth, at just 19 years of age. It follows five years of essential tracks on other outlets and all of these have proved he has an emotive deep house and tech sound. Far from just functionality, club tunes, his music is fully formed with real vision and musicality. Says the artist of the release, 'this is a chronicle of what I've been experiencing over the past two years; the transformation from someone who is interested in music and technology to a full solo artist and performer where my reality has become playing music and producing tracks.'

Opening the EP is masterpiece that is Reality, a slow burning tune with wavy beats and carefully constructed melodies that are sombre and tender. It's full of unexpected twists and turns, clever engineering and an arrangement that shows real artistry. As the beats shuffle on you get sucked into the deep emotions and lost amongst the gentle percussion. Then comes Heart Resonance, another moody track with lush chords and pads laid over soft but engaging drums. It's a majestically magical affair that really cooks up some exquisite melodies.

We Didn't Talk For A While gets a little darker, with more driving drums and rumbling bass that is filled with tension and suspense, even a little menace. Again the chords are well crafted and help stand the track out, then Henriette gets more loose and freaky for the late night hours, with skewed synths and miniature explosions of cosmic colour keeping you locked.

A few months ago Eva was hanging out and messing around in my studio as she does so often (I love it <3 ) and wanted to know how an arpeggiator works. She obviously ended up with the most unconventional loop one can think of, but sounded so good we wrote a full track around it. HOSH loved it and Bob’s Your Dad’s Brother. Out now and part of the new Warung Beach Club compilation, alongside great talent like Jeremy Olander and Sean Branton.

A familiar face on the Berlin techno scene, Marcus Meinhardt can frequently be found ripping it up at Kater Blau and many of Germany's other leading clubs. He is also no stranger to Exploited Ghetto with previous slammers like 'Hibiskuss' and 'House Of Beats' doing major damage.
 
'Masada' is another beast that builds imperceptibly to an intense throb through its perfectly balanced arrangement. A plump kick underpins shuffling tambourine rhythms and woodblock hits, while moody synth stabs give a sense of what's to come. Droning textures growl as hints of the bass tease into life. On-beat stabs filter up ever-so-slowly while rasping electro pulses thrust into the groove. A rapid-fire synth refrain adds more colour before swathes of white noises lift the track upwards. 
As the synth interplay continues to intensify, snare rolls usher towards new levels of intensity. The succinct yet deadly potent main hook of the the track is brought into play, dragging a spine-tingling chord progression with it. The on-beat stabs brigthen in their intensity, creating a real sense of urgency. A big snare-roll filled breakdown teases us before the arrangement is stripped back to its tribal simplicity before the final crescendo of the track hits us. Fans of Innervisions and classic Bodzin and Huntemann material should lap this right up.

It’s safe to say 2019 was the breakthrough year for GHEIST. It was marked by a series of festival and club gigs and a number of stellar releases on imprints like Solomun’s Diynamic and Watergate Records.

The Berlin-based band are kicking off 2020 with their first collaboration on their own imprint, Radau, welcoming New Zealand native Bayker to their label. The two-track EP comes two years after their vocal-heavy joint effort ‘Salvation’ was released via Exploited, instantly becoming a fan favourite. 

Two years later, Bayker and GHEIST get together in the studio again to continue where they left off with ‘Salvation’. The result is a two-track EP that bears the unmistakable GHEIST stamp, with Bayker adding a darker twist to the band’s signature dreamy, melancholic productions.

Dubbed ‘Howl’, the EP opens up with ‘Echoes’ is a four-to-the-floor beckoning to get down on the dancefloor that sees GHEIST step out of their comfort zone to show a new side to their masterfully crafted sound. In contrast, the title track is soaked in GHEIST’s dreamy melodic aesthetic. However, having Bayker on board adds a darker energy to the mix that turns the tune into an absolute dancefloor weapon. 

Radau will release ‘Howl EP’ digitally on February 28.

It's by no means a coincidence that Tim Engelhardt released his debut album on Steve Bug's Poker Flat label at the tender age of 17 years old. For his musical education began a full decade earlier, when he made his first encounter with classical music theory on the piano at home. Influenced by the musical leanings of his parents, with Mike Oldfield's compositions being particularly formative, Tim soon discovered the tracks of Cologne producer Robert Babicz, shifting his focus to computers and synthesizers as the primary means of production. In the midst of a diverse new generation of young producers who'd source their inspiration from a whole range of genres, Tim kicked off his career as he released his first vinyl EP at the age of 14. It's the combination of a deep-running music knowledge and an intuitive playfulness that Tim has been cultivating since then, expressing itself in a great love for harmony and expanding melodic structures, paired with an organic flow and atmospheric density. As a result, Tim's impressive output of the past years found a home on labels like Poker Flat, Cityfox, Watergate, Fryhide, Innervisions, Vivrant and, most recently, on Oliver Koletzki's Stil vor Talent, where his second album 'Idiosynkrasia' was released in 2020. His work in the studio is only one side of the coin, however, as Tim has been touring the globe extensively, playing dance floors at festivals and clubs in Australia, Africa, India, Europe and the US. During the touring drought of the pandemic and thanks to his tireless research in the studio, Tim was able to make a name for himself as a sound engineer, upgrading the mixdowns of other artists. Additionally he released numerous sample packs and software templates in 2021, aiding young artists in their own production quests. Tim Engelhardt's vision for the future: Art with personality – art that holds a piece of its creator at its heart. His mission is to translate the sounds in his head into reality as convincingly as possible. Which explains why Tim's productions don't really sound like the standard DJ fodder, as he delivers a well-rounded musical vision to the club floor, that is just as awe inspiring on the hi-fi system of your living room.
