Read EF Schumacher's book Small is Beautiful.  I'd like to say I wrote this song after reading that book but that wasn't the case, although it may aswel have been.  He says in a book what I try and say in 3 verses and a chorus.  The song is about how we have come to treat people like machines, forgetting that the aim of individuals, communities and society is not functionality but holiness.  This song is about how we have become disconnected from the most basic rhythms of living and it is a lament about the dangers of this separation and the desire we have to eliminate the living factor from everything.  We desire control, predictability and the absence of pain - but what we desire is not life.  This song is also about how truth may be mysterious and wondrous, but it is not complicated - deception is complicated.  This is why the best description for truth is light.  It clarifies, illuminates, brings warmth and colour and dispels my doubts and erases my fears. These are not impersonal forces, moving and molding personal beings - that's just nonsense.  They are all encounters with The Father.  And the way to the Father is through the Son.
