Machine Descending a Staircase

Experimental musician and instrument builder.

Software engineer by trade, I like to play around with sounds as a hobby in whatever spare time I can steal.  This has been an on-again/off-again affair for me since my college days (early '90s) with my Amiga 500.  Over time, I have used a number of tracker programs to do this.  My current weapon of choice is Renoise.

Steven Curtin is a Wisconsin born Detroit area musician/engineer/psychologist, who started building his own modular analog synthesizers in the late 70s and continues building and playing hybrid digital-analog electronic music instruments.  One possible description of his sound output is experimental ethno ambient with an old school meets newer school approach.  He also plays bass, including fretless and upright, and anything else with strings that doesn't run the other direction, guitar looping etc, and plays Djembe, Doumbek, and Bodhran in various drum circles. For the past several years he's been playing and studying the ancient Mbira, learning and communicating with a teacher and Mbira builder in Zimbabwe Africa.
