We are very pleased to bring you the very first mix in the brand new Grooveology series. For the debut we head out to the beautiful Balearic Islands, Mallorca to be exact for a mix curated by Spa In Disco Records Boss Fran Deeper. A long time DJ & producer himself, Fran favours the sundrenched funk filled nu disco sound, the same sound that he so excellently displays from his label.

Spa In Disco has been releasing music for just under 10 years now and has seen original productions and remixes from some massive names in the business. These include Hotmood, DJ Rocca, Adam Nova, Get Down Edits, C. Da Afro & Brothers In Arts. With great recognising great, the labels music has been played & charted by the likes of Jamie Lewis, Birdee & Shaka Loves You amongst hundreds of others.

Join us on Grooveology as we give the airwaves to Fran Deeper and his wonderfully curated guest mix. Featuring a selection of tracks spanning summer feeling Nu Disco with the hint of classic undertone, this one is perfect for a warm June afternoon!

Lux Experience – Disco Church EP

Norway’s Lux Experience throws the chapel doors wide open for the Hot Digits congregation to enter and marvel at the miracle of his Disco Church EP. 

Launching this ecumenical four tracker is the Heatwave-flavoured ‘My Disco Church’ - a groovy, four-to-the floor box cutter of a tune that grabs you by the boogie bone and doesn’t let go until you succumb to its charms. A solid, punchy 121bpm beat combines with slappy disco bass, furious bongo soaring harmonies announcing we are here to get on down. And that’s what we’re definitely here for. 

Track 2 is the pleasure inducing, brass tickling and tambourine tappin’ party starter – the simply titled ‘Muuvin’. Coming in at a deceptive 121bpm, Muuvin’ is one of those tracks that has you air drumming along to the beat whilst harmonising with the familiar vocals. A magnificent experiment in Brooklyn inspired funk, tight rhythms and dynamic soul. 

Track number 3 is the happy, clappy and seriously sexy ‘It Happens’. This one has a bassline so filthy you want to wipe it (and yourself down) with an antibacterial cloth. All shoulders and attitude, ‘It Happens’ is an up-tempo dance floor beast. It rolls, it bites and it growls. It bares its teeth to reveal a saxophone smile, leaving you trapped inside a Prince and Bootsie Collins combined fever dream from which you might never wake up. Outstandingly good from Mr Lux. 

Finally, we arrive at the slow-motion laser show of ‘Up Is The Way’.  The tempo is scaled right back for this final sermon from the Reverend Lux Experience. The almost sleepy and louche bass drum transfixes you from the off whilst slick guitar riffs and raunchy clav stabs do the heavy lifting for the incoming sassy, rolling vocal. Spellbindingly good stuff! 

The Disco Church EP oozes class from start to finish with four tracks that showcase the huge talents of one of Norway’s finest.  Lux Experience’s Disco Church is the broadest of churches and you’re all very welcome to join.

Full recording of my Pride Vibes Charity 12 Special that was broadcast on Mixcloud and Mixlr featuring 12 hours of tracks and edits that have been played by myself, Get Down Edits and Jay Ru the past 5 years at our roadblock Brighton Pride Street Parties at Shortts. A real shame this years event was cancelled due to the Pandemic but hopefully one day we will return to bring the Paradise vibes once again to the streets of Kemptown.
