I had designs for making a concept album in the spirit of Advent Children, and I made this as a demo for myself. I don't know if I'll ever get around to making the full album, but I was going to explore themes and locations that weren't covered in Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus, sort of a "supplemental tracks" album for hardcore fans. The "concept" part was the idea of focusing more on the characters who were relegated to cameos in Advent Children, as well. Basically, I really want to see a sequel to FFVII:AC in which Cid and Barret have larger roles, but I digress.

A friend and filmmaker once told me, "Student works don't count," meaning I'm not allowed to release anything I composed during college, but I like this piece enough to share it anyway.  This is a recording from my senior composition recital at Truman State University, October 2003.

Lament

This is a cue from the soundtrack to a two-act play.  This music accompanies the opening scene of the second act, the aftermath of a great battle.

The Cost of Victory

This is a cue from the soundtrack to a two-act play.  This is the exit music after the tragic final scene of the second act.  Featuring one of the main themes of the soundtrack in a wind-up music box rendition, the effect is one of reflection and regret.

The original cue was titled "Omen" on the Japanese soundtrack release, and changed to "Opening Theme" on the US soundtrack release.

I've been toying with the idea of remaking the entire soundtrack when I get a new computer, so it would sound nicer than this. I would make each piece "true to the original" while expanding and developing them as well. It's just a thought, just for fun. If it ever happens, I would also have alternate titles for each of my renditions. The full title to this piece, for example, is "Main Title (Storm Over Narshe / The War of the Magi / Opening Credits)."

April Quartet - I. Allegro

April Quartet was composed in the fall of 2004, for my brother's wedding in April 2005.  The second and third movements were adapted for piano, a piece I performed in the ceremony.  This movement was inspired by the second (Largo) movement of Winter from Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

April Quartet - II. Serenade

April Quartet was composed in the fall of 2004, for my brother's wedding in April 2005. The second and third movements were adapted for piano, a piece I performed in the ceremony. This movement is a "theme and variations" from a wedding piano solo I actually wrote in 1999.  It was fun to take an old piece and rework it into a different instrumentation.

April Quartet - III. Variations

This is a loop-able drone I created just for the sake of ambient noise. I wanted to recreate the almost womb-like comfort of nodding off to the sound of a box fan, air conditioner, or some other mechanical white noise. Actually, when choosing the different channels and mixing their levels, I was thinking of the ambient, cyclical hum of the Enterprise from ST:TNG.
