The Queer Northern-Ireland born Cormac revered by peers, queers and artists alike is marking the end of the year with a first curated VA compilation under his belt on his multidisciplinary imprint Polari Records. The release is out 15th of November, 2022.

"No Tears In The Backroom Vol.1" is a heady 8-track VA featuring the already established Polari affiliates as well as alluring newcomers to the label. Cormac‘s Polari Compilation serves as an unpretentious boisterous sonic outing and it offers a fun and loving home to the Polari chosen family.

"This is the first Polari Compilation and I'm happy to present such a strong debut. The title is in reference to a lyric from my track "Sparks". Sometimes I receive tracks that don't quite fit an EP or story, so the tracks featured are in one way stand alone tracks, but they also make sense as part of a family. They are a family of Polari rogues I guess, rogues that I love a lot." - says Cormac.

Although featuring varied vibrant tracks from a diverse palette of artists, No Tears In The Backroom Vol. 1 remains cohesive throughout. The compilation includes contributions from Davis, Brynjolfur, Timothy Clerkin, Hard Ton, REES, ROTCIV, Sean Den and Budino.

Timothy 'Heretic' Clerkin puts the soup and tweed to one side and goes full Orbital with 'Execute'

Having recently put out music from Bawrut and Ivan Smagghe, Ransom Note Records are back with a new EP from Timothy ‘Heretic’ Clerkin. Home to three dancefloor stormers + one insane remix from Marlon Hoffstadt, the Serenade EP is chock full of breakbeats and gurgling acid lines and twiddly little synth bits.

What do we know about Timothy ‘Heretic’ Clerkin then? Well, we know he’s released on labels including Tusk Wax and Rotters Golf Club, both as Heretic and as one half of Eskimo Twins. We know he was once crowned the fastest barman in West Yorkshire. And we also know two of his great passions in life are soup and tweed. Even in the summer heat.

The latest track from the EP to see the light of day is ‘Execute’, a demolition tool that harks back to the halcyon days of peak Orbital. It’s already been rinsed by the likes of Andrew Weatherall, who closed Panorama Bar with it last month and reportedly tore the roof off.

“I was playing around in the studio with a Fender Rhodes one day”, Timothy explains of the track’s genesis, “putting it through various amps and filters, then resampling it - that's how I came up with the main rave stab riff. As that part is played by hand and quite human, I wanted the rest of the instrumentation to be very mechanical and programmed, which is where the title comes from.”

According to my lap top hard drive, it was 10 years ago today that my first every 'synthesiser' arrived through the post. I sat in my grotty little student house in Leeds playing around with the Casio VL-1 through a Boss delay pedal & ended up making something that almost resembles club music... So I guess this is where it all stared. But more importantly, is definitely good for a laugh :)

Label linchpin Timothy Clerkin returns to Ransom Note Records with the Unborn EP, home to four brand spanking new rave bangers!

Harking back to the halcyon days of hardcore, the title track marks yet another stellar entry in Clerkin’s growing catalogue of precision-tooled acid anthems. Pure sensory overload this one, and that’s LFO-K by us. ‘Some Kind of Threat’ takes the slow burn approach and arrives at a similar destination, resulting in a cyborg techno stomper that’s as hot and humid as the rainforest canopy.

Situated between these two dance floor behemoths, ‘Primary Function’ acts as something of a palette cleanser, recalling a dubbed-out Boards of Canada on a particularly warped mushroom trip. Closing things out in style, ‘Akathisia’ is as restless and jittery as its name suggests, alternating between eski synth outbursts and a bouncy fairground beat.

Timothy’s music has brought us many special moments over the past few summers and seems bound to do so again, with the new EP already getting played by the likes of Optimo, Lena Willikens and Andrew Weatherall, who memorably melted the crowd’s collective brain when he dropped Clerkin’s ‘Divisive’ at Houghton last year.

After cutting his teeth as one half of Eskimo Twins, Timothy launched his solo career in 2014 under the now-retired Heretic moniker. Having released on labels including Throne of Blood, Hard Fist and Tusk Wax, he’s now graduated to running his own Insult To Injury imprint from his new base in the Netherlands. London’s loss is Amsterdam’s gain, but thankfully he’s back on 24th May for a live set at Corsica Studios - your first chance to witness the pandemonium of ‘Unborn’.

A partnership literally years in the making, erstwhile Eskimo Twin Timothy Clerkin joins Throne of Blood with a brilliant EP of slow-motion rave.

Best known for his tracks and remixes for labels like Ransom Note, Days of Being Wild, Astro Lab, and TOB-affiliate imprints including Mugwump’s Subfield (TOB006) and Clouded Vision (TOB025), Clerkin’s sound is a perfect fit for Throne of Blood’s off-kilter approach to the dancefloor.

All three tracks are bound by a concept, whilst remaining quite distinct. Wobbly, vintage, BBC Radiophonic Workshop sounding synthesis meets more traditional world music instrumentation without sounding like the Peter Gabriel of acid ;).

“Acia” is a made up name built from root words denoting movement in a particular direction, sketching a masterplan for three wildly divergent originals and an utterly searing dancefloor remix from label partner Max Pask, whose recent remix of Evan’s Pyramid with Joakim (CRWDSPCRX009) has become a festival favorite for discerning DJs this summer. Moving from euphoric rave to grinding chug and melancholic chillout through to propulsive italo-trance, the ACIA EP has been closing sets by Andrew Weatherall’s A Love From Outer Space “to a beyond rapturous reception.”
