Unsere Nummer 216 kommt heute von einem Berliner Künstler, der mich bereits seit langer Zeit begleitet. Die Rede ist von HOVR, einem vielschichtigen DJ mit dem Hang zum Speziellen. Daher war es nur eine Frage der Zeit gewesen bis er uns mit einem speziellen Mix beglücken würde.

Natürlich haben wir es uns nicht nehmen lassen ihm einige Fragen zu stellen.

Was sind deine musikalischen Einflüsse? Was ist dein musikalischer Hintergrund?

Ich hab mich mit 5 ins Klavier vernarrt und hab schon ganz früh angefangen eigene Melodien zu klimpern. Zwischendurch war ich dann auf Gitarre, Percussion und Gesang fixiert. Mit 18, als Berlin meine Wahlheimat werden sollte, dachte ich, dass ich in verrauchten Bars meine singer-songwriter-Karriere starten sollte. Hat nicht so geklappt. Außerdem kamen die Plattenspieler dem zuvor und jetzt lege ich seit 5 Jahren leidenschaftlich auf erfreue mich jedes mal wenn ich auf Festivals, Open Airs und in Clubs die Zeit dekorieren darf. Das Produzieren kam 2019 dazu, schloss die Lücke zwischen nur auflegen und Musik 𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘯 und hat seit Corona viel Hingabe erfahren wegen weniger Partys :D Dieses Jahr kommen noch einige spannende Releases von mir, auf die ich mich schon sehr freue. 
 

Was macht deiner Meinung nach eine gute Afterhour aus?

Zwei Dinge definieren für mich eine gute Afterhour: Menschen und Snacks. Man braucht den richtigen Vibe, um eben doch noch nicht schlafen zu gehen und den machen die alten und neuen friends aus mit denen du unterwegs bist. Und was gutes zu essen holt nochmal ein paar Lebensgeister hervor. Gerne direkt neben dem Club voll verschwitzt und stinkend ein Pizzastück bestellen..Nostalgie pur! Freue mich schon wenn das wieder stattfindet!
 

Welche Gedanken magst du uns zu deinem Mix mit auf den Weg geben?

Bei mir stehen gerade ganz schön viele Wechsel im Leben an, vielleicht war mir deshalb so danach, verschiedene Einflüsse in ein Midtempo-Set zu packen, von Arutani über Underworld zu einem unreleasten Dark-Disco Song von mir wurde es ein bunter Musiksalat - hoffentlich mit rotem Faden ;) Passt ja eigentlich ganz gut zur wiederkehrenden Afterhour-Saison! Oder ist die eh ganzjährig?

One of my favorite sets in a while! This party marked the end of a conference exploring artificial intelligence held at Zuzalu, an experimental pop-up city in Montenegro. 

Lots of fun and weird alignment happened for the event and the party 🌞 Not least of all, Grimes came as a speaker for the conference and decided that she’d love to perform at the party as well. She played a heavy set right after me, and the party was already high-energy when I started, so I ended up playing pretty upbeat. 

I played a mix of oldies and new faves. Hope you enjoy!

The performance also featured the ’Voxel Cube’, an art installation using a brain-computer interface to edit the visuals projected onto a mesh cube the DJ stands inside.

For our second guest mix, we chose someone who defies the boundaries of music, Acid Pauli.

When we spoke to Acid Pauli, he let us use an older mix that meant a lot to him, Peace. With our collective growing up by the sea in Brighton the mix speaks to the atmosphere around the town, and the ability to take people on a journey through varying emotions with similar but diverse tracks is exactly what we aspire to create with After Hours.

As you might have guessed i had some off time lately. It seems like the production phase gets a ‚little‘ stretch.
Good for you guys as you’ll receive more music as usual. Not just from me.
And as my early roots lie in 90ies Hip Hop better to say Battle Scratch 90ties Hip Hop I decided to go back to the roots and started to have scratch sessions again. (No worries ill spare this part for you!)
But…From here on i found all the old beats i liked and still love to this day.

Schwarzwalders Journey Back To The Roots

After so many months of not having a proper dance floor, being close to all the dancers and living the familiar routine of playing every weekend it was a special journey to create a three an a half hours mix for me. Within the last year I realised more than ever that electronic music and the culture that comes with it is one of the most appreciated parts of my life and I guess it was like that for many people, too. This mix is a reflection of that. I wanted to create a mix that includes all of the different variations of four to the floor music I like. My intension was to have a groovy and drifting but also smooth and diverse vibe. I was digging deep in my music collection to include some of my old favourite tracks combined with some new stuff.
