I come from the cypher. on 21st and South St Philadelphia, I attended open mics where was taught how to bring a freestyle rap to a group called a cypher. On a mic or in a side group at a table the most honored was action was to “keep the cypher complete”. Pass the mic, don’t come wack, bring your a-game and respect your elders in the cypher. I wise emcee told me once you have to be a man before you can be an emcee.
