Roel Funcken doesnt need an introduction. A long career, along with his brother, under the prism of multiple aliases as Quench, Funckarma, Legiac (…amongst others) are more than enough endorsement. His ambient textures maintain a cinematic quality throughout, while his percussive arrangements retain a constantly mutating framework, always reconstructing its rhythm and structure, contradicting complex configurations and minimal design. 
In 'Sapper Morton EP’, his debut in AF, Roel explores bright territories close to the electro genre, full of edges and shades, painting evocative landscapes. If you add a remix from the acclaimed James Shinra you have a must release.

To mark the 10th ØEN REC. release Fruit debuts with “Island Tape” a striking album of atmospheric and cinematic soundscapes. Originally from Iceland, but based in Denmark Fruit has been making waves in the Copenhagen club scene with his eloquent DJ and live-sets. On “Island Tape” Fruit presents a more personal and introspective side to his distinctive production skills. 

Cultivating soundscapes and narratives that are melancholic yet uplifting, the album is a highly intimate and emotional journey. Across the album’s seven tracks Fruit showcases his unique sound, navigating between ambient soundscapes, percussive melodic house and haunting atmospheres. Skilfully crafted and executed, we are incredibly pleased to share this one with you as our tenth release.

Fruit - Island Tape [ØEN010] Preview

One of the low key driving forces at EABE records, producer DJ Lifegoals is now stepping into spotlight with the release of his debut vinyl EP Life Imitates Art. Over the past year the Helsinki-based producer has been the talk of his hometown, gathering momentum with his euphoric live gigs, as well as his eclectic DJ sets at the top venues of Helsinki. 

Especially his live set at The Flow Festival 2018 seemed to perfectly capture the blissful mood of the exceptionally long and hot summer in Helsinki. The same joyous atmosphere is also the dominant one on the Life Imitates Art EP, which musically documents the rare and precious moment when the shores of The Baltic Sea felt more like The Balearic Islands.

The producer, while only recently emerged under the alias DJ Lifegoals, has a long history with electronic music, having started collecting records at the age of 13 under the guidance of a local DJ. The vast range of influences is heard in DJ Lifegoals’ music, that while paying homage to his 90’s house, breakbeat and acid favourites, is constantly surprising listeners with explorations to unsailed seas. Characteristic to DJ Lifegoals’ music is the fine balance between euphoric eruptions of rave-ready moments and more subtle, progressive elements.

With the much-anticipated release of his debut EP, DJ Lifegoals is now looking forward to next summer’s gigs, as well as working on his second EP and remixes for several artists.

@orlando-voorn is back on Multiplex alongside the label debut of @lucalozano! This new 12” compilation format is curated by Steen Kong. The concept of Obey The Night is to pit two producers against one another, each deliver an original track as well as a remix of the others work. The result is for the floor.

First up is Orlando Voorn, who Multiplex previously has released under his electro alias Ultra. This time though, Voorn supplies a beyond-groovy house tune in “Pull Up”, and his remix of Luca Lozano’s “People Person”, a deep thumper of a track. Not surprisingly, both have amble Detroit feeling.

On the flip side Luca Lozano kicks off with his percussive-heavy and quickly intensifying original “People Person”. This is followed by his take on Orlando Vorn’s track - and the ensuing “Luca Lozano Praise Baruka Remix” is a brilliant match of the individual sonic mindsets of the two producers.

Cabasa joins up with Boogie Box Records to release three leftfield techno cuts entitled ‘Excess’ including a remix from Keysound’s Otik. Belgian producer Cabasa continues to seek the boundaries between beatless and rhythmic frameworks whether it’s through production, playing gigs or on his regular The Word Radio show. His previous releases on labels Eddy Larkin, Eclipse Tribez and No Suit Records have been well received within the leftfield techno sphere and the future certainly looks bright for the young producer. He now joins the Boogie Box roster following strong releases from Appleblim, STL, Caldera, Cain, in addition to remixes from Forest Drive West, Fold, Shed, Jonas Friedlich and Juniper. ‘Valleyfield’ starts things off with fluid synth work floating around a resonating, syncopated drum pattern before ‘Excess’ offers a dark yet uplifting aesthetic delivering winding polyrhythms, hypnotising oscillations and delicately broken percussion. ‘Cats On Scooters’ creates a captivating atmosphere through metallic melodies, sharp stabbing features and a warm bassline. Leeds based producer Otik, known for outings on Keysound, Nous Disques and DEXT provides a sense of euphoria in his remix through angelic pads, weighty kicks and crystalline ambience.
