"Tree Sing" is an evolving work by Tina Pearson that imagines a kind of intimate communion of reciprocity with trees. Its original vision is one or more performers of voice and/or movement, each in close proximity with a single tree in a forest, forming human-tree duos.  Each human performer is gently wrapped head to toe in unbleached soft fabric, with their back to their tree, the vocalists with their mouths uncovered, the movement artists with their arms and lower legs loosely free. 
The score is divided into six main sections, with sub-sections that suggest particular focuses of attention and inquiry relating to  information about trees gleaned from biology, ecology, myth and memory. 
The focus in any rendering of Tree Sing is on the tree(s) and how they look, feel, sound, smell … their aura, shape, dampness, dryness, what they carry, how they move from the deep inside to the outer expressions of wind in their leaves or needles. The approach is one of receptivity, request and curiosity.

Measure for a Mayfly is a participatory piece that is concerned with human interaction with the soundscape. Using listening exercises and relational games referencing animal and bird behaviour the piece gives participants a glimpse into a world where humans embody a perpetually acute, alive and nuanced awareness of listening and sounding. This recording is from the last 3 minutes of a performance in a forested area during the 2013 Electric Eclectics Festival in Meaford, Ontario. A stereo mixdown from a fragment of On Your Winds, an ongoing longform invitational work with human breath as the sole sound source. The work recognizes that breathing is intimate and personal. At the same time, we share air, with each other, with other lifeforms, and even with the past as nanoparticles from many times and places and industries filter through our atmospheres. 

The audio for On Your Winds brings together accumulated breath sounds from many places in an evolving breathscape. Participants are invited to consider their relationships with wind, with their ancestries, and to perform and record a simple score for breath. Anyone can participate. The recordings are carefully listened to, and excerpted, samples are edited, stretched and filed. For each installation, the sounds are reconsidered, then mixed with new contributions, layered and spread sonically according to studies of the biospheres and wind patterns of the installation locales.  

The breath sounds on this excerpt are from people residing in North America and Europe, ranging in age from about 8 to about 80.

Recorded with contact microphones, stretched and mixed, otherwise not processed. For an audio installation at Dart Hill Gardens in Surrey BC April 27-29, 2018. Commissioned by Don Li-Leger.

Low frequency excerpt from audio tests for part of the installation "This Is For You ohrenhoch Berlin". Note: Most of the frequencies will not be heard on laptop speakers - listen on headphones or good external speakers. The audio is a set of sine tones blended to create shifting beating frequencies - the shimmering effect that occurs when two or more tones of close frequency are sounded together. The tones in this sample are tuned to frequencies just above, near or below the typical upper threshold of human perception. Not typically perceived singularly, these frequencies will produce lower beating frequencies that fall within human audio perception range when combined. The audio has been compressed in time, with silences omitted. The installation audio is very low volume with much longer fade times and silences, and combined with text instructions for listening, and another set of very high subtly heard tones near or above the upper limits of human frequency perception.
