A quickly-done track with some animated stabs from the Juno 106 and Novation Bass Station, vintage solos on the Roland Paraphonic RS-505 and the Yamaha CS-15D. Other stuff in there, too, of course, but these are the stars of the show. 

As with most of what I'm sharing on Soundcloud, this is sort of a first draft, quickly pieced together just so folks (and collaborators) can see what I'm up to. I tried to channel some of the spirit of Yaz, The Cure, and Camouflage in this one, while adding some signature Tiny Wight flavor. If it seems a bit sparse, it's because I tried to leave some sonic wiggle room for lyrics. I hope you enjoy it! :-)

Are We Alone

As most of you who are following me on Soundcloud know, I'm trying to find a workflow that works well for me now that I've replaced all my software with hardware synths. This track was a little practice session having to do with balancing numerous synths making the same pad sound and using the vocoder (EHX Iron Lung) intelligibly.

As anyone who grew up in the 80s knows, "If You Were Here" by the Thompson Twins was the most ridiculously romantic / heartbreaking song of its time. I figured I'd take a shot at this short and sweet little number with no frills. Just downtempo and simple - not even a solo! Unheard of from the likes of Tiny Wight.

Anyway, I've been uploading so much lately that I figured- yeah, it's sappy and kind of cheesy in that 80s way, but screw it.

If You Were Here (Deadites Lonely Robot Remix)

Just a little something put together on the Elektron Analog Rytm while I'm trying to find my way around it. It's a very deep machine. The animation of the sounds in this track mostly comes from LFO mapping to different parameters on each track. Very cool machine! Looking forward to digging in deeper.

Swamp Creatures

20 minutes of messing around with the new 7x7 and 808/909 sounds on the Roland Aira TR-8. Didn't change the pattern much, as this was really just intended to be a listen to the sounds. I figured I may as well toss it up here for people to check out. Definitely adds new dimension to the box.

Edit: Wow, listened to this in the car and the kick drum is blowing everything else out of the water until about the halfway point (where I turned it down on the box). I'll need to set a max level on that.

Bluemod Roland TR - 8(7x7) New sounds

Something done in a couple takes over an hour or so. Minimal post production. Mostly just messing around with syncing drum machines, etc. Certainly not a finished product, but I thought there was enough of something here to share.

Here's a track from back in my software days that I'm still pretty happy with. Simple, minimal, and ambient, with a sort of vintage flavor.

This one was written a few months ago. I originally intended to go back and re-record the flute-like solo from the Roland Jupiter 8 to improve the feel, but I've sort of come to accept it for what it is. Figured I'd share it, anyway.

"Bonnie's Song" (Techno Ending)

Here's a super laid-back track that developed organically from one little sound (the initial "CLINK" that is reminiscent of the tense percussion heard in every samurai movie ever) that I was playing with. Borderline adult contemporary synth jazz, but I'm okay with it. ;)

I Wish It Would Rain Down (Phil Collins Cover) - The Deadites

An ambient track with slightly taiko-inspired drums backing several synths, both analog and digital. Workflow was single-pass audio recording with no sequencing. This seems to be working out best. I managed to start and finish the track within a 2-hour window, which is unprecedented for me.

Mountains In The Clouds

An example of the Arturia Matrixbrute's techno capabilities. 

This was recorded in a single-pass. Multi-band compression applied after recording for slightly better leveling. Bass is off the wall here. I'd normally filter it off a bit, but I thought folks might get a kick out of the synth's low end. :) 

Live-performance using only the Arturia Matrixbrute (recorded monophonic). Performance modulation/improv was aftertouch, mod wheel, note pitch, FX level, and sequencer direction/start-stop, with a slight modification of the release of ENV3 at one point. I'm absolutely blown away at the flexibility of this synth. 

Towards the end things start getting wild when my 6 year old son steps in and starts playing!
