‘So Far Away’ is the latest single from Tiny Dyno. Coming together through the Bristol music scene, Emily Gardiner and Tom Kuras began Tiny Dyno during lockdown 2020. 

The duo discovered a unique connection, combining the infectious tones of indie pop with an underlying sense of anxiety. ‘So Far Away’ beautifully demonstrates this, combining Kuras’ incredible ear for lo-Fi synth pop with a haunting and powerful lead vocal from Gardiner. 

Channelling the sounds of 70s rock, synth pop and electronica, ‘So Far Away’ marries pounding rhythm and yearning melodies over a sea of swirling synthesisers. Gardiner sets the tone from her first line ‘now this feels so old, such a time ago’, “The song was all about the combination of different textures and worlds” remarks the track’s producer and guitarist Tom Kuras “I feel the song is tense and anxious whilst being triumphant and anthemic”.

The song builds with the addition of jangling percussion and shimmering synth lines. The cascading wave of pounding beats and squealing guitar harmonies come crashing down to Gardiner’s declaration ‘there’s an angel on my shoulder, but I don’t do what I ought to’. The tension builds to a pummelling drum fill before the climatic final chorus.

Mixed by Robot Club (Massive Attack, Nick Cave, Tom Waits) and mastered by Rik Dowding (Portishead, The Horrors, Primal Scream, The XX) the diverse collection of sounds on ‘So Far Away’ offer a glimpse of what can be expected from their forthcoming EP.

‘Enough’ is the second single from Bristol duo Tiny Dyno. Channelling the sounds of psychedelic rock, baroque pop and electronica ‘Enough’ is 3 minutes of sonic mastery, woven to express the everyday desire for love and fulfilment. 

The tone is established in the first few bars as yearning synth pop melodies soar above the pounding rhythm section. The band take a step back for the arrival of vocalist Emily Gardiner as she snake charms the listener with her delicate and candid delivery. The stripped back verses make way for the gargantuan chorus. Gardiner isn’t afraid to wear her heart on her sleeve, the lyrics have a genuine vulnerability; “please tell me that I am worth something, been feeling like I ain’t worth nothing.”

The outro is a tour de force of sonic-maxilism, featuring everything from house music-esque sampled vocals and expansive synth lines to fuzz-boxed bass and crushing drums by Ian Matthews. Showcasing producers Tom Kuras’ modern take on the wall of sound, the exhilarating time travelling soundscape builds before the band plays out at supersonic speed.

Imperfectly Perfect’ is the third single from Bristol duo Tiny Dyno. Channelling the sounds of psychedelia, baroque pop and electronica, ‘Imperfectly Perfect’ is 3 minutes of sonic mastery, woven to express the desire for closure at the end of a relationship. 

The narrative is established in the opening bars as frontwoman Emily Gardiner proclaims “you changed me and misshaped me, I’ll give you that”. This spacious verse makes way for a kinetic chorus featuring the repeated, spiralling chant ‘Imperfectly Perfect’. Gardiner’s soaring vocal melody kicks in halfway through along with a bank of expansive 80’s synths.

The band take it down for the next verse, making space for more of Gardiner’s story telling. Featuring lyrics such as “my head was filled with scraps of thinking you were mine”, ‘Imperfectly Perfect’ is Tiny Dyno’s most intimate song to date.

Showcasing producer Tom Kuras’ modern take on the wall of sound, ‘Imperfectly Perfect’ builds to a technicolour surround sound outro before the band get out of the way for Gardiner’s final statement “I’m thankful for the things that burned”.

Tiny Dyno are the rarest of acts. They blend the art of immaculate pop with the warm glow of sugar spun indie. Emily Gardiner and Tom Kuras came together through the Bristol music scene, finding connection through a love of the infectious tones of indie pop. They began eagerly writing all the songs they never heard on the radio.

It’s a sound they’ve been tweaking, perfecting. In less than a year they’ve refined and re-sculpted their love of electronic pop and 70’s rock gloss around their need to produce something crucial. What comes out is a sound that flows up through the decades to make singles that feel close to timeless.

Likened to Saint Etienne, Goldfrapp and La Roux, Tiny Dyno seem to exude a missing link, creating a warm yet spellbinding sound that you didn’t know you needed.
