Been trying to work out some shit ... My Dad was an amazing man. The war fucked him up good. WWII. He won my mother's hand by beating six guys from the town where she lived. He was a 4-Letter athlete and a boxer. The dudes from Mom's hometown jumped him every time he came to date her. So he hired a cop as referee and lined the dudes up all fair and square, one at a time. They quit after he destroyed half of them but that wasn't the deal, so he beat the other three. He won his place and drove the Plymouth he earned working. He was a teetotaler until the war, he fought in a brutal campaign from the Battle of the Bulge in a unit that was the first to cross the Ziegfried line. What he saw haunted him. He came back and drank a lot and tho well-liked, charismatic, he'd lost his mind. He was an expert builder but his dreams all went to hell when my brother his eldest son, the only other, I was just a kid, - the brother got KIA in 'Nam. That was it.

A casual talk about a none too casual business: Detoxing from booze in a locked ward – the local hospital doesn't have a detox unit any more, so you get in running a suicidally high BAC. I'd had some byoots: .52 is my personal best or worst, often I was over .40 ... That level is lethal to a lotta people. But I was often still standing and talking. A security guard couldn't believe it. He wanted to know my secret. I said: "Buddy, if you wake up blowing .35 is just a short hop to 5." I don't have that sense of humor about it anymore because I spent my entire  adult life either sober or on a binge. I'd put serious years together and "relapse." Eventually cops materialized almost every time I drank, even at home alone, because you don't use the phrase "I think I'm gonna kill myself" to people any more without 5 police agencies showing up just hoping you're a "barricade" case and they can play with their SWAT toys. I've had a SWAT team at my house. I've also been tased in the ER at the hospital here when the cops showed up after a drunken phone call where I must've used the dreaded "S" word (suicide) and once they're across your threshold, your rights vanish. The tase didn't do its thing. I felt a little shiver and said: "Ya little puke, was that my electro-shock therapy for the night?" The cops, all seven of them, were freaked out a rookie tased a belligerent in an ER. Then they seemed "shocked" that I didn't yelp and do the Flimsy Flop on the linoleum. I have a peculiar relationship to electricity and am not bothered by electric fences and things like battery cable jolting me. Maybe I'm full of silicates and possess a  low conductivity level. All I know is I spent the night in three point restraints after a whole lotta  tussling. If I were Black, I'd be dead. 
This invasive welfare-check crap came out of the Baker Act and cops use it. Luckily I am well known in this town. Did a lotta favors for the cops when I was a reporter. But, like my Dad, I did not like being told what to do by cops especially sitting in my own house not bothering anyone. I get a little aggressive you might say. Thing is, I'm alive. I don't drink because alcoholism bit deep when I was really young and I knew it was one demon I had to contend with ... But I bargained and lied to myself and my last detoxes were so Evil – it's said your whole life passes right before you die – and a couple bad cold turkeys at home alone in my late 50s were deadly. I died a couple times. No shit.  I have no clue how I came back, but sure enough folks, I died for a little bit in a couple different seizures and man, I tell you what they don't tell you about your last seconds: You got no time for your past life and what passes in your mind is not a Disney synopsis of one's best moments, but a montage of your most lurid and fiendishly demented visions. It did big damage, that shit. I'm okay with it now. I'm alive and as far as I can tell, that's one of the best gifts we get ... and it is a gift.

Detox&Hospital Socks, a little story

Thank you all for stopping by. I started posting on SC two years ago. It was an effort to play catch-up on a 30-year absence from music-making. Almost ALL tracks are sketches, with some exceptions. Call is eccentric, eclectic, unbalance, whatever – it's not like I'm trying to breakthrough on any scene. Good luck to all of you!  I appreciate your time.
