If you are interested in how I recorded this (if not, then stop reading now! ;-) ), I used Audacity because it is free and adequate for most things someone like me would attempt doing! I started by generating a click track at the tempo I wanted. I learned to do this the hard way after Best Song Ever was really difficult to piece together!!! Having recorded the click track, I then recorded the ukulele part all the way through using a Bruce Wei acoustic tenor ukulele with a small diaphragm condenser microphone (basic one from Thomann), routed through a Behringer mixer using the built in effect Vintage 250 reverb. Next, I recorded the piano - cheated a bit by using a Yamaha touch sensitive keyboard, but put it through the same reverb effect. For the piano and strings, I connected the keyboard by MIDI to an old Kawaii synthesizer so that the strings played at the same time as the piano - it's a really nice trick on a touch sensitive keyboard because you can vary the balance of the piano and strings as you play. I recorded the cajon next, using the same microphone and reverb effect as the ukulele - I used bass boost on Audacity to give it a bit more substance! I then recorded the lead vocal part, using a large diaphragm condenser microphone, shock mount and pop shield from Thomann, again using the same reverb effect (re-recording bits I was not happy with) and finally some subtle backing vocals. I used the Audacity compressor on everything, went through each track removing any background noise in the quiet bits and then set relative volumes and panning before exporting the track as an mp3.

I still have plenty to learn, but I am pleased with the way I can do this now! :-)
