Titian - Originals

This is the start of my TwoVinyls mix series. I want to explore creating mixes using just the tracks from two vinyls. Every now and then, you stumble across records that just seem like they were made for each other. Each track complimenting the next and creating the possibility for the DJ equivalent of a short story. 

I will include the Discogs link to each record I play. If you like the music, go ahead and support the producers.

There is a little record store in Friedrichshain, Berlin called MitteMusik. On entering, a serious faced man named Gabor sits behind his counter sorting the latest records he's sourced from distributors, labels, and wherever else he can find them. Each time I go there, I always end up spending way more than I planned. He is the best sort of salesman. I simply tell him the kind of mood I'm looking for, sit in the raised chair next to the turntable, and wait as he brings banger after banger like some kind of musical waiter. 

On one such journey, I took off my headphones and heard a track he was playing over the house speakers. "That is huge"! I said over the beautiful synths and rhythmic drums coursing their way through the room. I returned to my digging, but after 2 minutes or so, another outstanding track followed. "Is this the same record"? I asked in disbelief. That was just the A side. The whole record spoke to me. Especially the Lou Karsh track that plays at around the 27:00 mark.

The second vinyl has a similar story. The perfectly flowing ethereal synths combined with expertly crafted acid lines make this entire album one of the finest examples of electronic music production I've had the pleasure of listening to.

Freeflow encapsulates the joy of starting a mix with no idea where it will end up. I limit myself to around an hour, and start off with whatever the first record I pick from the pile might be. Once I hit record, it's just a journey from there.

This is Freeflow #1. I took it in the direction of spacey breakbeat and deeper techno. I am pretty happy with how it turned out. 

Enjoy with Manchego and fruits during a pleasant drive around town.

Just bought my first set of Pioneers in over 8 years!! It's a dream set up of mine. This was a little Sunday afternoon celebratory mix. Lots of flowy music in there and a few chuggers.

As the sun came through the window today (a rare occurrence in my home), I was compelled to slow it down a little. I wanted to take myself on a journey. Increase the energy without changing the tempo. The mix stays at 117.5, don't ask why that specific tempo. Hope you enjoy.
