FLUX Hawaii presents Best of 2014 | Part Two

Joy is a force, a bond, a sanctuary. When I think of joy, I think of the women who raised me, who left everything behind to build a life in a new place. I think of the sisterhood and friendships that hold me up when I can’t hold myself up. I think of healing, laughing, and dancing together, finding joy even in the heaviest moments.

In honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, BLOOM was recorded live at PAIKO flower shop (https://paikobotanicals.com) in Honolulu, Hawai’i, surrounded by my closest girlfriends. Every track in this set is by a female artist...voices that have carried me through different seasons of life, soundtracking my growth, healing, and joy. These artists remind me of my own strength, just as the women in my life do.

Sonically, this mix moves through soulful R&B, hip-hop, UK garage, jungle, jersey club, baile funk, and house—genres that feel like home to me. It’s a journey through rhythm and emotion: introspective and uplifting, nostalgic and forward-moving.

In this latest mix, I share what I’ve been navigating as I let go of old patterns and explore what it means to come back home to myself. It almost feels like a phone call to my past and future self — an audio entry of where I’m at right now.

The songs I chose that hold all of these feelings — grief, tenderness, and quiet clarity. I feel like certain lyrics in each song land like affirmations or realizations...at least for me. Enjoy.

going through a life transition where i feel like no one can relate and i'm having a hard time balancing and prioritizing (i.e. i made a mix instead of studying for anatomy lol). my life feels really messy and disorganized right now and i feel like the genres and this mix reflects that.
