Now for something completely different... My first recording(s) of a new approach for me towards the guitar: Fingerpicking with bottleneck slide in open tunings. Recorded at my mom's art studio located at the Edison weg (road) in Alkmaar(NL) in the  summer of 2020 during the Covid 'lockdown' situation in Holland, therefore basically on my own.
I've been making music from a very young age, graduated saxophone (tenor) conservatory and playing piano/keys since 8 years old, yet playing slideguitar (bottleneck and lap with a bar-slide) is quite 'new' to me. I picked that up now 3 years ago after discovering more of the oldest styles and forms of our contemporary music: Blues in its most rootsy form. Both Mississippi styles, Delta and Hill Country, along other states in the US countryblues styles are so much fun to play!... Inspired by heroes as R.L. Burnside, Mississippi Fred Mc Dowell, Bukka White, Elmore James, the very talented Justin Johnson and many other blues giants. It is quite a challenge to play thumbed bassparts, fingered rhythm and melody with a bottleneck at the same time! Still a lot to learn and 'comprehend'. This is what I got so far. I've picked up the bass guitar for these recordings as well, advised by my good friend Robert Edsen, a great bass player and guitar player, who was convinced I could easily play my own bass parts. Now I'm hooked!

Inez:  Ibanez ES type, blueish-green, customosized with Deusenberg p90 (bridge) and vintage (outphased) '59 Gibson Humbucker (neck), pickups. Duesenberg tremolo and rollerbridge. Super twangy!
Miss Brown: Fender Brown Derby Buscuit-cone Resonator, no pickups  Open tunings D and E (Sevastopol).
Truusje: Mystery Dobroclone Spider-cone Resonator (tuned GBDGBD & DGDGBD), borrowed from neighbourette Truusje! Played lapstyle with a bar-slide.
Carmen Lolita (aka Lola): Sunburst (Mex.) Fender Telecaster (thinline) 60th Ann. 2 widerange-humbuckers. Open E (Sevastopol)
Gino: Black Ibanez-Gio GAX30 (Humbuckers) Open D (Sevastopol) and open G (Spanish). An underestimated instrument!
Ichi-Ban'Jo: Red 4-string wooden mystery Banjo, European made, tuned as a cigar box guitar in open A, Played with blottleneck.
HowLong: Brown Cigar Box Guitar, 4 strings with p90 pickup, open G (GDGB).
Yuki Yammerwood: Blonde Yamaha FG460S Dreadnought with a Gretch DeltoLuxe pickup, Open G tuning (Spanish).
Jaco: Sunburst Fender (USA) Jazz bass, fretless (pau ferro fretboard), '62 re-issue Jaco Pastorius. With the reversed tuners 'n all!
Dimitri: Blonde Fender (USA) Dimension bass, one active Humbucker pickup, borrowed from my good friend Robert Edsen.
Marcus: Blonde Sire Marcus Miller Jazz bass, with active singlecoil pickups.

Tony: Fender Tone Master - Deluxe Reverb amp, with the DI and cabinet sim output integrated. Works great for recording!
Ruth: Fender Rumble40 Studio amp for the basses. (Also DI integrated)
King: Supro Blues King 12" tube amp, mic'd with Sennheiser Blackfire 521.
Acoustic and resonator guitars mic'd with AKG Perception 400.
Drums and Keys vsti, played on MIDI Keyboards (NI B4 Hammond and NI Kontakt libraries)
All Guitars and Banjo are played with a 'bottleneck,  (glass & ceramic), no picks; bare fingers (except for the 'Dobro' lapsteel parts, Boogalooga Blues and the rhythm guitar part of  Preachin' Behind The Kitchen Stove ).

I Whish I Was In Heaven Sittin' Down (Trad.)

You know when life is laughing at you, but not in a funny way? An uplifting sounding blues, but with mixed feelings, I had to move to an appartment of a nine stories high buidling on the highest floor, and darn its noisy, no sound isolation or whatever... Found out I could not make music freely anymore at home! Not conveniant having a home studio :P

Nine Stories High

Hill stomp blues. In fact a recorded testing-out of my then new Supro Blues King tube-amp with Lola, a Fender Telecaster thinline in open E (Sevastopol). No overdubs; you might notice the continous thumbing in 8ths on the 6th string under the rhythm and lead, all played at the same time.
The bass part is one of my first recordings of bass guitar, Dimitri a Fender Dimension-bass. Added to the the guitar amp-test-jam.
Drums and handclap were something put together quickly as rhythm loop for the jam.

Clarity (Orig. version for sound of the week)

Updated version of an (old) project, also found in this playlist. Finally I have the guitar and bass skills to finish this monster of a track as I always had in mind, or ear better said, but simply did not play good enough guitar or bass back then. So now I've completed this piece with powerchords, lead melody and solo, bottomed with a slap-bass. Guitar parts played on a Gretsch Double Jet thru pedalboard and Fender Deluxe Reverb, the bass is done on a Sire Mr.Miller (active) JazzBass thru a studio Rumble 40. And synth solo not to forget, as it always have been there, now making much more sense in this new context imho...

Original Info:
Track built around a soundscape live recording inside a (at that time Corus, IJmuiden) steel factory. A 90 meter high beast of a machine rolling out those red hot plaques of steel after pooring in hot cast iron and and a ton of scrapped cars at once!
Solo synth is played on the A6 Andromeda (Andy).

OXY 2 - Tapping Steel (Update 2 wíth Guitars & Bass)

RusselBell had some good critique on the mix, I took his advise and had another go on the mix, here's the result!

( I recorded this song a few years ago on a standalone harddisc recorder and an old version of cubase on an Atari (=D) before I started working with the PC. I remixed the separate audio tracks in Cubase5 and re-programmed the drums, which sounded awfull in the original, I am more content with this version. The result sounds way better then the original version. )

Our Magic

Another remix-down of an older song which is from before I started working with a PC. I bit of a TV tune.
The guitar part is recorded with a lot of punch-ins, one of my first recordings with an electric guitar, the rest is MIDI with hardware synths. The writing and recording is done in 2005.

Rendezvous In Rio (For BigBand & Strings)

A cooperation with my friend Lhasa Mencur. He wrote this catchy melody and provided my the basic drums, bass, chords and melody in a very moogish way! 

I have arranged those tracks and added some space sounds and windy sweeps. On top of that I doubled the sweet melody and improvised the intro, intermezzo and outro solos with a killer minimoog patch. All these true analogs come from the A6 Andromeda!

Wanted (=TMB= Mixdown)

All tracks are composed, arranged, played, recorded, mixed and produced by myself. (Slide)Guitars, bass guitar, cigarbox guitar, banjo, lapsteel resonator, saxophones and Andy (the Alesis A6 Andromeda) recorded thru a Yamaha MR816csx. All other instruments are vsti played on midi keyboard controllers (not in DAW 'programmed'), except for some electronic drums like the TR808, 909 and StylusRMX. DAW used: Cubase.
