Thyroid cancer is when abnormal cells in the thyroid gland start to divide and grow in an uncontrolled way. While thyroid cancer can affect anyone, it occurs in women almost three times more than in men. It may spread to other areas of your body without prompt treatment.

Most cases of thyroid cancer occur without visible cause or risk factors. Whereas, certain factors, such as radiation exposure, a diet low in iodine, and faulty genes can increase your risk for thyroid cancer as well.

Treatment depends on the type of cancer you have and how far the cancer has spread. Removing part or all of your thyroid is the preferred treatment for 1-4cm cancer tumors. Many patients likewise receive a combination of treatments including hormone treatment, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or targeted therapy.
