Liver Cirrhosis is the scarring of liver caused by long-term liver damage. Many people think that only excessive drinking can cause liver cirrhosis, however, there are a number of other ways that liver can be damaged and lead to cirrhosis. Common causes include alcohol abuse, hepatitis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Your liver may keep working even when you have cirrhosis. However, liver cirrhosis can eventually lead to liver failure and serious complications, which can be life threatening.

There is no cure for live cirrhosis at present but treatment can manage the symptoms, which may stop liver cirrhosis from getting worse. Liver transplantation may be an option if your liver is failing.
