With the relaunch of the site I thought there are certain people I’d like a mix from and Lexx was one of them. Luckily he came through and what can you say. He’s a Swiss man with ultimate good taste in music that runs from his hardcore love of Reggae through to Disco, Balearic Beats and House. Far Away Places [Mix/Jan 2014]

Khruangbin are the Texas based three-piece that make psychedelic, acid jazz infused Thai funk music. Oh yes. Comprised of Laura Lee, Mark Speer and Donald Johnson, the trio have supported Bonobo across his USA tour and even had a track included in his Late Night Tales mix last year.LNT's artist label Night Time Stories subsequently signed them up, with single 'A Calf Born In Winter' released 19th May and an album in the works. Providing the soundtrack to your dreams and entering i-D's mid-week wind down session for their first ever mix, these are the psychedelic sounds of Khruangbin. Drift off.

"This is our very first mix tape. As such, we wanted to draw on original inspirations to each of us individually in the band, as well as together. In this we pull on Acid Jazz, Gospel, Brazilian Funk and Psych, Thai & Japanese Pop/Rock, "farm rock", Dub, Funk, and R&B to hopefully create a mix that is varied in style yet cohesive in feel. We hope you all enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it."

This is a journey into sound. And a journey to the soul of Brazil. To the great sounds of the past and to the four corners of the huge country. To the deep and strong musical heritage that comes from roots and rhythms, poetry, jazz and rocknroll. You will hear music with voices replacing words with feelings. Music created during the dictatorship but alive with freedom, expression and love.

Over the past 8 years or so we have had, along with Theo Parrish, the honour of playing the monthly residencies at a small basement club in Shoreditch, London with an impeccable sound system. After 20 years of operation, it was time to move on and close the doors on a place that has a lot to answer for in shaping modern club culture. To say this space along with the owner Ade’s singular vision was fundamental in our personal musical formation would be a complete understatement. 
 
On the day of their closing, manager Charlotte asked us if we’d put the system through its paces for the last time that the club would be open to the public. We set about packing the anthems from our respective residencies and on the night once the people were through the doors played 2 records in turn for the rest of the dance. We included tracks of our own and of friends that were made with that place in mind. Records like Daphni - Ye Ye and Four Tet - Pinnacles were made to first be played at Kieran’s nights there, and the Floating Points - Vacuum EP was born out of the CD-R night at the club, and its launch party was the trigger for Sam’s monthly residency.
 
We set this recording up just before the start of the night and unfortunately it distorts in places, but we make no apology for how joyfully noisy people get! The vibe in the room this night was typical of the club on any given night and we hope this recording captures just a fraction of the spirit of a Plastic People night.
 
A massive thank you from us to everyone that has come down to the nights over the years and supported our music there. We are truly humbled to have shared the music we love with people at this place, and your energy in turn has influenced the way we make music on an unfathomable scale. We also thank the bosses Charlotte Kepel and Ade Fakile for inviting us to the club and having faith in us over  these years! All the best for the future!

Laurence Guy's 'Bamboo' EP is more of the soul-soothing same and it showcases four tracks of sublime house music. It's set to drop very soon so it's about time you heard the title track in all its glistening glory.

The percussion trickles in from the get-go and that flirtatious bassline does everything in its power to seduce, while the chords ripple and the instrumentals float in the background. It's the definition of serene and and fantastic way to celebrate a year since Laurence's first appearance on Church.
