Kagami is the duo of Jared Blum (Vision Heat, Gigante Sound) and Maxwell August Croy (En, Root Strata, Empire of Signs). Their eponymous debut, recorded between 2014 and 2017, finds the pair navigating a bracingly wide range of niches with aplomb and precision. Evoking summertime ambience, widescreen electronics, anthemic pop instrumentals and windswept romantic gestures, Kagami is a charming and dramatic record that at times recalls the soundtrack to some lost title from Nintendo’s golden age or perhaps a spiritual successor to the miniatures of Yasuaki Shimizu’s Music for Commercials.

Featuring Jonathan Sielaff of Golden Retriever on bass clarinet and Adam Hill on double bass. Original cover art by Brenna Murphy, layout by Konrad Jandavs.

The mall was packed full of people on what was a hugely busy Saturday afternoon - they wandered between bright glowing shopfronts with wasted purpose. The shopbeat they called it, the latest trend. From high end fashion through to low end electronics, it was everywhere and everybody wanted a little piece of the new. The glowing figures danced in the windows enticing potential customers inward to buy their useless products. Money poured from the pockets and this was to be the day it was spent...

A new release emerges from the Rush Hour camp titled "NUMERO U KNO". A new EP by Suzanne Kraft with whom you may be familiar with from releases on Melody As Truth, Kitjen and Running Back.

Ekiti Sound’s childhood between London and Lagos was invaluable: it was a lived experience of the recent musical dialogue between West Africa and the UK.

Spending his formative years in East London clubs, then working as a sound designer for Pinewood Studios and scoring movies within the booming Nollywood lm industry became the foundation of the album’s eclectic sound, which takes in references as varied as techno, trap and soul, while its narrative pays homage to Nigerian folklore: “I’m really focused on the preservation of our culture,” says Ekiti Sound, whose moniker was named after the region where his father was born.

The artist’s award-winning 2019 debut album ABEG NO VEX is a record whose production ingenuity nuanced a new chapter in the Afro-fusion sound, while asserting the vocalist and producer as a maverick who’s ready to keep pushing boundaries.
With ABEG NO VEX receiving support from Tom Ravencroft (BBC6 Music), Gilles Peterson (WWFM), Laurent Garnier, Afropunk and other global tastemakers, the album has built a cult fan base of DJs and diaspora ravers.

The worldwide appreciation of the album inspired Ekiti Sound to invite producers from across the globe to remix tracks. Resulting in the EP Abeg No Vex (The Remixes Vol 1), which will be released on March 6th on Crammed Discs.

The featured remixers are Canadian electronic music producer Hrdvsion (pronounced “hard vision”), London’s Stan-ley & BeatSoul and eclectic French producer & DJ Soul Edifice.
