🎵 Fire and Rain – James Taylor (1970)
🔁 Reprise personnelle, en hommage.

Il y a des chansons qui traversent le temps avec une vérité nue, comme un cri retenu. Fire and Rain en fait partie.

James Taylor l’a écrite après le suicide de son amie Suzanne Schnerr, alors qu’il était lui-même en traitement pour dépression. Ses proches, pensant le protéger, ont choisi de lui cacher la nouvelle jusqu’aux funérailles. 

Cette décision l’a profondément marqué et blessé. 

Dans ce morceau, sorti en 1970, il parle de la perte, de la solitude, des espoirs brisés. Il évoque aussi son ancien groupe The Flying Machine, tombé à l’eau, et sa lutte intérieure.

Quand je pense que James a 77 ans. Que je l'ai vu Sur Seine la première fois il y a peut-être 40 ans. Quand je pense comment il a failli mourir de son addiction à l'héroïne... de sa dépression chronique. C'est une des personnes qui m'a le plus inspiré dans ma vie par ses textes et son jeu de guitare. Combien de fois j'ai croisé Francis Cabrel dans les concerts. Francis qui avait adopté son look quand il a sorti son premier album. Francis qui a toujours été fidèle à James en adaptant des chansons comme Millworker et Sweet Baby James. Francis avait deux grandes idoles, Bob Dylan et James Taylor. Je ne sais pas si je reverrai James sur scène. J'ai eu la chance de le rencontrer plusieurs fois notamment grâce à mon Samuel Légitimus grand fan devant l'éternel grand spécialiste de James.
