1. NameBrandSound - Hip Thruster

For Precious Metals Mix No. 018, UK producer @Rain_Dog mixes reflective, thoughtful records from a notably atmospheric cross-section of the electronic music sphere. 

Rain Dog hails from the North West of England, just near Liverpool, a city not unknown for its contributions to pop music. Though he's played guitar since age 7, Rain Dog came into his own as a producer in his early twenties, fascinated by the limitless possibilities of computer-based production and composition.

Armed with no more than a Chinese tube mic, a few soft synths, and a quality pair of monitors, Rain Dog crafts stepping, beat-driven tunes that often feature wispy, hazy instrumentation, chopped snippets of vocals, and percussive samples. His versatile sounds are frequently heard on @BBCradio1 and BBC Radio 6. 

For his Precious Metals mix, Rain Dog features several of his most salient influences, including Kidkanevil, Tim Hecker, Jon Hopkins, and the seminal duo of whom he's admittedly a huge fan, Boards of Canada. Rain Dog's mix alludes to the simplistic intensity of the deceptively stark Stolzl ring, and weaves a bittersweet quality between the tracks. The set could be equally functional as a restorative session or as a warmup to late night.

Just back from Prague's Lunchmeat Festival playing alongside Evian Christ, Throwing Snow, Koreless, Tim Exile, Rain Dog is prepping a performance for street artist Mobstr's debut exhibition Sex, Drugs and Painting on Walls in London.
