I have to share this experience .. anybody who knew this man or got to work closely with Johnny Clegg left his presence, changed, evolved, wizened, inspired and grown. I was blessed to be part of the Lindberg fold, Des n Dawns youngest son, this gifted me experiences with some South Africas rarest, brightest and most talented humans. Johnny Clegg was a very close friend to my parents and so when i saw him in JhB at exclusive books in 2002 i boldly introduced myself and in true Johnny grace he knew exactly who i was. I directly asked him if he had thought about doing a HIPHOP co lab with me and my best mate Brendon Laroo who had just won a Sama for best hiphop album. THE ORIGONAL EVERGREEN. To our absolute surprise he loved the idea which i have to say was quite ground breaking at the time. Local hiphop as a genre had only just begun to be accepted and recognised in South Africa. I was naturally ecstatic as Johnny was defiantly one of my local music heros. He then politely asked if we had a track prepared, which we did not! 
We white lied and said 'yup! OF COZ! we made it specially for you J'
 to which he replied 'ill see you boys at the studio at 6pm' 
Well B and i scrambled back to the studio and put together a track for the LEGEND JC! 
We had asked Johnny if there was anything he would require at the studio to make his experience more comfortable and all he asked for was a six pack of beers. 
To us this meant that he was one of the boys! lost in that moment with us! 
Not as a super star, but as a friend making an experimental track. 
No contract, no expectations, just local artistic love and light!
The dopest moment was when JC pulled out his Guitar and asked us do we have a kappo he could use as he had left his at home.
 We did not but that did not deter this authentic master!
 'Do you know what a Zulu Kappo is boys?' 
B and i stood transfixed in wonder. 
'Let me teach you' he smiled
Johnny then proceeded to create a Kappo out of a Bic pen and elastic bands B and I had rustled up from the studio admin section. 
Johnny then began to do what he does best! and made our track immortal! 
Brendon and i dropped some freestyle rhythm on our bars and BLAM! We created the first raw Johnny Clegg hiphop track ever!! 
This artist, humanitarian and friend will remain deeply embedded in my heart until i graduate to meet his light again!
