Wot do you call it, gqom? Well, yes. South Africa, and more precisely, Durban, has been incubating a vibrant micro-community of music makers over the last few years. For the uninitiated, gqom draws on the darker side of electronic music, hip hop, soundsystem culture, kwaito, UK funky and deep tribal African vibrations. The results are stark, yet utterly mesmeric.

The Sound of Durban Vol.1 represents the first full length compilation collecting the sound of Durban's suburbs and townships. Cruel Boyz' "Umeqo Emagqomini (Dub Mix)" sweats potency from its every pore; comprised of afro-dance polyrhythms intent on forcing movement from your every limb. Cascading clave clicks form the main body, but its the support of the steady rolling, percussive beat and ominous drone underbelly that really pressure any listener to jerk and jive.

Catch it on double LP and digital (with four bonus tracks) via the Gqom Oh! label on 29th January 2016.

Florian Meindl is to release a new EP on the 2nd of November. Set for release on Florian's established label FLASH Recordings, Collide: Remixes is a collection of remixes of the tracks from Florian Meindl's well received May LP 'Collide'. A collision of analog sounds and styles, Collide takes the listener on a dark techno journey, while the remixers stay true to this. Florian has invited fellow electronic producers Berger, Dubspeeka, Electric Rescue & Avgusto to each bring their individual sound to the remix EP delivering a fresh take on the prominent tracks from Collide. The multi-talented and multi-faceted artist Florian Meindl is renowned for his technical prowess, and over the years has established an impressive producing base for him himself in his Berlin based Riverside Studio complex. After fourteen years of international performances and production, Florian has developed a special collection with his analog equipment, letting them speak for him in music where words just aren't possible.
