This is a selection of alternative (non club/home listening) DJ mixes recorded either from vinyl, in traktor, or compiled and edited in Logic. 

These mixes are designed to be like a moment in time. Unplanned. One-off. 
 
The method is I dig into a load of current electronica (etc) releases and buy some tracks, then put the mix together straight away that day. 

I often don't know the artists or labels, and I rarely play the tracks again except when listening back to the mix. 

Where track listings are missing I can only apologise. Some of the mixes are really old and I didn't make note of them at the time.

Aug - Alternative DJ Mixes 2010 - 2023

Toby Ezby -  DJ Mixes

The full album is a continuous piece of music inspired by everything I had ever listened to and experienced at the time. It is mainly a collage of samples. It always felt like it existed in my mind in its entirety.

It was written for the label Civil Music and created almost entirely in January 2010 but due to complex set of circumstances, including unexpected death, it was never released.

I am making it available now for the first time having played it to only a handful of people in the last 13 years.

Aug - Syzygy (the lost album)

The original Side C of the Aug album 'Syzygy'. 3 conjoined tracks using live, organic and filmic soundscapes in the contexts of electronica, house and techno. The middle track is 'Life.03' which chronicles the uplift and subsequent death of HAL9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Recorded on no sleep after Listen festival in Brussels. Went digging in Crevette records with the wonderful Anna Wall and Adi Purple Pitch, then more digging online on the way home. Put it all together when I got off the plane.

This is more of a radio show than a club mix. It goes all over the place. Last hour is more techno. 

Same as always..   did a big shop of current releases, put the mix together with no planning.

My talented friend Szymon Klos (who also designed the original artwork for the record) heard my track Z Daleka (originally the last track on the album, now a bonus track) and played a live improv around it. This is a one off performance recorded on I phone in his house which I arranged up with some strings, effects and other layers.

Their track Steppin' Out was picked up by the legendary Eddie Richards and signed for his Fabric 16 Mix.

The track was later released by Tony Thomas on Ambiosphere records as part of a 4 tracker. One of the other Living City tracks on the EP 'Tibetan Calling' was supported by DJs across the UK and US (tech) house scene. 

Eddie Richards' Fabric 16 mix contains the elements that make tech house such a seductive darktime soundtrack, and Eddie's Fabric appearances essential. Its fourteen tracks use big, thick bass and dreamstate beats; Detroit strings and Chi-town grooves; twisted vox and tribal drums; lightening loops and off-key effects. Collecting the work of Eddie's pals and peers, this is 70 minutes of upfront, downright four to the floor, packed with echo and drowned in delay.

A DJ whose influence is acknowledged but whose skill is rarely acclaimed, this is Eddie Richards' first-ever commercial mix CD.

This was originally intended as a follow up to Syzygy. Then one of the other tracks got signed to Sony as a library thing..   then I never got around to finishing it. Always really liked this track though. Might get around to mixing it and finishing it one day.
