I have an older, less powerful computer that I want to use SSL on as a back up rig and I want to know if this vinyl is compatible with it prior to purchasing it. I can't seem to find any info on this matter online. In addition, what versions of Serato timecode exist and how can you tell which one you have?


EDIT: After some research, I came across this discussion - Based on this, it appears that the new Serato Performance Series vinyl I linked in my initial post is indeed compatible with SSL due to it and the older Rane-branded vinyl featuring the same timecode signal (CV 2.5). If anyone can confirm this just for more peace of mind, that would be appreciated.


When i have the platter running (which is the whole reason i bought it) it kicks off really slow at maybe 120/125 BPM for 3-5 seconds then rapidly accelerates to the correct 131 BPM. same if i scratch, soon as i let go there is a 3-5 second slow lag again then accelerates. ive got the torque on high any ideas what the problems is?? and more importantly how to resolve it.


Thanks a lot, its so great to have this affordable option for digital scratch, as you mention, the regular sistems are expensive, and living in Mexico its even more. So now i just need to be sure that this Traktor vinyls works well to start having fun.


Being a modular plugin certainly has its advantages. We can route the audio in creative ways, adding chains of effects to the turntables output, automating the parameters in ways that would not be possible in the real world (64th note crossfades, etc), syncing of the clips to the DAW playhead (beat matching loops, which means we can scratch them, but then resync at will), and recording snippets of sounds from the DAW to the plugin for immediate scratching (the plugin can record loops from the DAW).


Scratch Live allows manipulation and playback of digital audio files (mp3, wav, aiff, ogg and non-DRM aac) using traditional vinyl turntables or CD players via special timecode vinyl records or CDs. It seeks to cross the divide between the versatility of digital audio and the tactile control of vinyl turntablism and has become the industry's dominant digital DJ'ing tool.


For the uninitiated (like yours truly), the whole idea of scratching an mp3 on a computer using what's essentially a joystick in the shape of an actual turntable is a little bit baffling. But A-Trak has decades of experience with this sort of thing, so once we were done asking him about what vinyl means to him, and why he doesn't use it in shows any more, we got him to take a step back and explain the basics of how Serato works.





"Everything that you do on a record is reflected the same way as if it were a real record. If you increase or decrease the pitch on the turntable, which is what you do when you mix records, that information gets transferred as well. The timecode that gets sent to the computer says, 'I'm playing at pitch plus two percent.' And the [computer] gets that information and produces the music accordingly. If you scratch a record, which just means that you're moving a record back and forth, well, you're moving the time code back and forth and that time code gets sent to the computer.
