On 13th December 2021, Above & Beyond were on top of the world. Or, as high as you can get with a whole bunch of electronic equipment that needs to be carried up 708 steps to a summit 656 feet above sea level. The two time Grammy nominated London-based trio were performing on the summit of the Rock of Guatapé at La Piedra del Peñol Guatapé in Colombia, in a performance for live streaming platform Cercle.

The opening track was ‘Morning In Deira’. Not only was the rippling piano instrumental – a near-six-minute quiet-is-the-new-loud anthem – a freshly written composition from a beloved band, it would also be the flagship song for a new (ad)venture under the Anjuna umbrella; the company founded by Above & Beyond in 2000 to release their music and home to two labels, Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep.

Five months on, ‘Morning In Deira’, backed by another new Above & Beyond song ‘Time Heals’, is the launch release of Reflections. The songs deftly set the tone for this new, third label from the Anjunafamily. 

Reflections will be the home to the South London-based organisation’s ambient, downtempo and alternative catalogue, a fresh imprint that represents the “chill” arm of a suite of labels that are as prolific as they are successful.

Songwriters first, producers second, Above & Beyond’s unwavering commitment to their craft has fuelled a career that many electronic artists today might only dream of: four acclaimed studio albums, 14 compilation albums, two ‘acoustic’ albums, a stand-alone album for yoga and meditation and an original motion picture film score - not to mention innumerable club cuts and dance remixes.

She lived a life. A Lifetime of love and joy, pain and sorrow. Her memories are going back to the times when she had to hide from the Germans in the crawlspace every time the it knocked on the door. She can still remember the fear and how it reeked after they had been for hours in that crawlspace. Despite some years start to blur out and some slowly fade away just like a flower by the end of the summer. She's still there, she's still making memories. All of her friends are gone, she outlived her husband and even her kids who were so dear and precious for her. But she's still there. She knows her time will come and she knows it can be days away or maybe years.
If only someone would be there to talk with her and maybe come over for a visit every now and then. Her life would feel more fulfilled and be less predictable. She sits at the window every day waiting for the days to go by. She is all alone, feels no longer useful, the names of her children start to fade in her mind and she starts to forget what the favorite food of her husband used to be and how he smelled. She liked his smell in the morning, freshly shaved and showered. He was so energetic every morning and had solid zest for action. He worked for a car company, and god knows how much he loved cars in general. But now he is gone: Gone for almost 20 years. And she is still here. She knows her day will come, and she is prepared. Having everything packed in her mind, she will leave nothing but this old wooden chair, that she is sitting on, behind.
Sometimes she thinks about the time when she will be gone. Will someone notice that she is away? Will someone notice that she's not sitting by the window anymore waving at the kids when they come home from school?
She wrote her eulogy years ago, picked an urn, the cheapest they would offer, and instructed the local priest how to set everything up once the day has come. This is the lady who waits for the days to go by...
This track is dedicated to everybody who lost a dear friend or family member.

DUALITY: An album in two parts.

Since day one, I have always struggled with how to present myself. Am I a dance music producer who does downtempo / experimental albums? Or is it the other way around? My first album had a bit of both, which is why I have referred to ‘Duality’ as the true followup to ‘It’s Artificial’. Part One focuses on the downtempo side of things with hints of indie-pop, while Part Two explores my progressive and trance roots. This is by far my most raw and honest work. On June 1, we released two songs from each part: “Equal” with Asbjørn (Official), and “Midnight” with Alison May.

I did not do this album alone. These are more than just “features,” these are collaborations. Together, we have woven a massive journey that is deeply personal, and showcases our most vulnerable selves. Many of these fabulous collaborators are also LGBT+, and I am so proud to be a part of this wonderful musical family.

‘Duality Part One’ is out August 12, and ‘Duality Part Two’ will follow on October 28th.

Berlin-based producer and live act Nils Hoffmann releases his highly anticipated album ‘A Radiant Sign’ on Anjunadeep.

With singles including ‘Afterglow’ and ‘Let Me Go’ already released this summer, Nils has picked up an impressive list of radio support including BBC Radio 1, SiriusXM Chill and KCRW, and amassed over 2M streams across all album singles so far. This adds to an already-impressive list of tastemakers like Diplo, Bob Moses and Pete Tong who’ve championed his work on Poesie Musik, Ton Töpferei, Bitbird and Counter Records.

The album marks the beginning of a new chapter for the 26-year-old up-and-comer. Finding himself going through a transitional stage in his life, Nils used the album to help him escape and give him hope in uncertain times.

“The album is about new beginnings, and represents the beautiful results that can come from fighting through difficult circumstances. I wanted to give people a collection of music that they can be absorbed by; giving them the hope and faith to keep going through the twists and turns of life. While writing the album, I realised that challenging situations do eventually come to an end, and while facing those challenges, it’s best to look ahead. That’s what ‘A Radiant Sign’ stands for.”

Having started releasing music and touring the world at the young age of 16, Nils already has a wealth of experience to call upon. Drawing musical inspiration from artists like RÜFÜS DU SOL, Ólafur Arnalds and Stephan Bodzin, Nils showcases his masterful melodic house productions over the 13 tracks of ‘A Radiant Sign’. From the intertwining synths in ‘Let Me Go’, to the hard hitting drums in ‘Tiderays’, and the ambient textures in ‘A Radiant Sign’, Nils blends meticulously crafted electronic elements, with vocals and organic sounds throughout.

‘A Radiant Sign’ features a broad range of collaborations, including electronic duo TENDER, South African vocalist Julia Church, singer-songwriter Panama, acclaimed Australian songstress Gordi, London artist bailey, ‘Breathing’ vocalist Malou, UK duo Hi Frisco, and renowned neo-classical composer Niklas Paschburg.

Nils Hoffmann is going on tour this Autumn, playing headline shows across Europe as well as joining Anjunadeep on their Europe Tour and supporting Ben Böhmer on his ‘Begin Again’ tour, with more global shows to be announced in the coming months.

Nils is part of the next wave of emerging talent from London-based electronic label Anjunadeep, who have broken electronic music stars such as Lane 8, Yotto, Eli & Fur and Ben Böhmer.
