It's always a joy watching someone taking their first steps towards becoming a music curator & DJ: the way they navigate linking the musical influences that surround them alongside the cultural touch that define their identity to find their own unique voice. Meriem is a prime example of that approach as she actively spent this past year putting the hours in as she bridges her Arabic roots with music on and off the dance floor. 

As Refuge Worldwide resident she uses her show "Roots & Beats" to delve deeply into those themes as she explores music from around the world, & as a DJ she brings all those influences together to create a vibrant moving space for dancers.

From meeting her dancing at Kala to sharing many (many!) hangs, lunches , dinners & ofcourse dancefloors, Meriem S brings a special energy to the music she showcases, & this mix is a perfect snapshot of what makes her tick & what makes her move.

I've been playing the music I love for over 20 years across New Zealand, Australia and the UK. Starting off in the vibrant NZ outdoor party scene I played many of the big festivals of the day including the Gathering, Alpine Unity & Destination. More recently I've been a founder of the Tempo Schmempo collective, label and radio crew in London putting on parties and keeping people sane with weekly radio shows. I'm a disciple of the deep mix playing everything around and in between slow disco, deep/tech/italo house, disco, cosmic, afro-tech, techno, breaks and prog. Now back to Aotearoa running regular Tempo Schmempo parties and gigging around the country.
